On Ours' website, Jimmy Gnecco explains how he met Jeff Buckley b/c he and
Jeff both played similar venues when they were in the Lower East Side of NY
at the same time. Apparently, Gnecco was never a tech of Jeff's, but just
met him while Jeff was doing a soundcheck and offered to fix up his Gretsch
after Jeff mentioned that it needed work. More info about Ours and Jeff can
be found at www.ours2.net or something similar. Interesting to check out
the tour diary that is located under the tour section of the
website...Gnecco himself addresses his concern in one of his posts of the
Jeff comparisons. On the day of the concert that I saw Ours play w/ Pete
Yorn, a guy in line who'd seen Ours do this acoustic set said that he felt
very flattered when the Jeff comparisons came around, they just were
limiting. I still have my suspicions of the source of Ours' riffs, though...

I purchased the Ours album yesterday on the strength of Buckley comparison buzz
and reasonably good review in Rolling Stone.

I've run it a few times through since and the similarities, especially on the
first few songs, are quite striking.

I've been on a Jeff riff since spending my jury duty downtime hours reading the
Buckley bio and having the discs and numerous boots on endless loop. Sounds
like these guys have done the same.

Somewhere along the way the vocals start sounding more like Bono than Jeff,
with the falsetto hopping thing going on.

This isn't quite what Frank Marino or Randy Hansen did after Jimi's demise, but
something about it just doesn't sit right if you're really familiar with Jeff's
work. There are times when its just TOO close. The effect is some kinda Bizarro
Universe Recombinant DNA record.

My two cents.

That's all fine and good to listen to the album if you're familiar
with Jeff's work, but isn't it a little retarded to sit and listen to
an album with the intent of finding similarities?

Can't the OURS CD stand on its own?

I was listening to it this morning and I am *completely* in love with
it. When he does those Jeff-like yells I get chills. Personally I love
it! (And considering I really don't care for U2, I'm surprised I like
his Bono-like voice)

And "Sometimes" has a Doors-type riff in it. It is a very well
put-together album. It's like Buckley meets Bono meets Voltaire
(www.voltaire.net).
