I forgot which BWV the following fugue (main theme) is: dafdc# def
gfe... does anybody know? Thanks.

I believe the theme to Contrapunctus 12 of the same work also has this
melody but with a different rhythmic pattern.

Yes, I realized I was being a little simplistic in my answer after I sent
the reply :-) It's the opening subject of the Art of Fugue, so reappears
quite often throughout the work.
