MiG Ayesa's debut album now appears slated for release on March 20,
2007, instead of in January as was previously announced. Here is
Amazon.com's pre-order page:

http://www.amazon.com/MiG/dp/B000GW8Q08/sr=1-1/qid=1166834229/ref=sr_1_1/104-9323467-5388707?ie=UTF8&s=music

I'm surprised to see that it is an album of cover songs. Is that a wise
way to go about making a debut album? In MiG's case, it may be,
considering how unimpressive his original songs "Do Or Die" and "Home
In Me" seemed when he performed them on "Rock Star: INXS". Covers are
apparently what MiG does best.

Actually listened to some of the samples on the Amazon site. I do like
his cover of "Can't Find My Way Home," and that says a lot because I'm
crazy about the Steve Winwood/Blind Faith version. However, his voice
sounds "tight and constricted" on "Someone Saved My Life Tonight." And
his cover of "Jeremy?" I used to be a big fan of Pearl Jam and that
song *needs* anger and angst...I don't hear it in MiG's version.

His cover of the Blind Faith song does sound interesting, and so does
his cover of the Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger". But the rest of
the samples don't sound very promising to me.

I've also noticed that the product description mentions that the album
includes an interpretation of Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September
Ends", but I don't see it in the track listing. I wonder what happened
there?

I never thought MiG had much of a "rock voice," but more suited for
Broadway, even though he was my favorite contestant that season. (Which
isn't saying much, as I still think Hutchence + INXS was a magic
combination that only comes along once in a lifetime.) From what I
heard in the samples, he uses that "softer" sound for most of them, and
I'm not sure I'm crazy about that.
