On occasion, you may be confronted with a technical question involving
science/engineering/physics.
When that happens, you should never acknowledge your ignorance. Instead
you should arrogantly take the position that you are correct and that you
don't need to either justify or explain your position. If that approach
fails, you should then arrogantly state that all previous work on the
subject matter is wrong, and demand that that some absurd, preposterous and
irrelevant alternative situation be analyzed.
Here's an example of how I responded when I was confronted with such a
situation in alt.sci.physics.acoustics on 4/8/2005.
"I think that folks who are trying to use the train/whistle analogy to
prove Doppler distortion exists in a speaker are wrong because they're
working from the wrong fundamental basis."
"If someone wants to start with the diaphragm/hole analogy and do a
mathematical analysis of that to porve the existance or
non-existance of Doppler distortion, then I'll be as supportive as
possible."
Despite the fact that I am technically inept when it comes to
science/engineering/physics, that line of bull shit got me off the hook in
that situation. Hopefully that or a similar approach will also work for
you.
