I just wired up my Leslie 251 to work with my Hammond XK-1 digital
organ.
this Leslie uses a 6c pin out schematic, and the instructions work
with any 6pn Leslie (122/145/7).

all you really need to do is hack a 6pin Leslie cable to accomplish
this goal, which is to make your Leslie cabinet work with any line
level source.

6pin cable works as follows in these 3 options (balanced, unbalanced
and dual channel)

pin 1: black wire (from Leslie cable) is audio signal GROUND
pin 6: red wire is audio signal HOT
pin 2: yellow wire, 1 of 2 Leslie Tremolo relay
pin 5: brown wire, 2 of 2 Leslie Tremolo relay
pin 3: gray wire, AC main (120v from any wall outlet) 1 of 2
pin 4: blue wire, AC main 2 of 2

so all you need to do is create a little project box on the ORGAN side
of the cable. Leave the 6pin female end intact to plug directly into
your Leslie speaker.

Pins 1,6 : wire up a 1/4" jack. UNBALANCED
pins 3,4 : wire up a lamp chord or any AC feed directly to these
two. This will provide the AC power to the Leslie amp and "fast"
motors.
pins 2,5 : this is where you wire up any switch you would like (foot
switch, small switch to Velcro someplace handy...etc) that will
control the choral / tremolo speeds on the Leslie.

done !

if your source is not sending a hot signal, use a DI box in front.

though I suspect this info will be useless to most of us here, the
small handful of Leslie owners might benefit. I thought it was *very
good info* to have on file.

Hydra-Audio stepped on his noob pecker:

Yeah?

Try plugging that mess into a 122. (Remember - you
said " instructions work with any 6pn Leslie (122/145/7)".

Just for your personal edification, noob, if you
plug a 122 into your snazzy "DIY hack" (emphasis
on the word "hack") you'll be connecting AC to ground
(pin 2), grounding one of the balanced signal lines
(pin 1), and connecting AC to the 122's internal B+
supply. Of course, the fact that the 122 switches
the tremelo by impressing a DC voltage across
the balanced signal line and using it to bias a
12AU7 on and off, thus firing a relay with a DC
coil, is immaterial - since all the magic smoke will
come out of the parts long before you have a chance
to find out that you can't fire the motor control relay.

As for your DI box "hack" (there's that word again...),
Leslies actually operate at what used to be called
"broadcast level," which is a pretty ferocious amount
of signal by today's standards - a B-3, for instance,
with the swell pedal fully depressed and all the
drawbars pulled out to the "8" position, can put
out a signal in excess of 40 volts AC (peak-to-peak)
when playing a 4-note chord. You can actually drive
a pair of 600-ohm phones to a fairly painful level
with it. A DI box is designed to knock an instrument-
(or line-, or even speaker-) level signal down to
a mic-level signal, balancing it in the process.
Useless in this application.

Hopefully, no-one who owns a 122 will take your
"advice" - unless he's trying to light his barbecue
grill.

As a supporter of President Obama, I believe that change is good.

Therefore I support this hack and intend to give it a try since it's
entirely new.

May I borrow a wire stripper? Oops never mind, I'll just use a
stripper, since I do live in Las Vegas.

Also, I don't actually own a Leslie, so I'm going to try this
modification with an AC powered Hitachi Wand personal vibrator.

This should provide a better buzz than Organfreak's weak coffee.

I'm quite sane. I have to be, in order to prevail in a highly
competitive field.

By the way, apart from eBay, Amazon and stuff like Facebook, the web is
mostly used for erotic purposes, at least part of the time, by most
users. So from your point of view, most people are deranged.

I also seem deranged to you because I have a sense of humor.

You seem deranged to me for a whole long list of reasons, but I can't
stay and type, going out to have fun tonight.

Cheers!

You take issue with my thought processes? You're the one that believes
in an invisible sky daddy/bully and his mutilated zombie son.

There is nothing immoral about sex, erotica, etc. Now going to war
unnecessarily, that's immoral as hell. And you vote for the assholes
that do that.

You're also foamy enough to shave with.

Tony

P.S. Didn't you once blurt out that leftists disrupt the funerals of
U.S. soldiers, and then were unable to back it up with a single fact?
Are you aware that lying is also immoral?

He's a foamy-opath!

That's his official designation from now on. I'm even adding it to my
spellchecker.

I love classic old animated commercials. Paul Frees (foams as it
cleans!) and June Foray (Rocket J. Squirrel) got some voice-over work on
that one.

Tony

P.S. Beware of the foamy-opath!
