The annual RSA Security Conference is one of the largest gatherings of the year for cybersecurity professionals, and the RSA 2020 event in San Francisco this week upheld that tradition, undeterred by global fears about the spread of coronavirus.

In many respects, the conference is about innovation, as security companies new and old battle emerging threats with the latest products designed to stop those threats. Here is our take on the hottest startups and products making news at RSA Conference 2020.

The RSA Conference 2020 Early Stage Expo is an innovation space dedicated to promoting emerging talent in the industry. Here are some of the most exciting companies exhibiting innovative products and solutions, which you can see in person in the San Francisco Ballroom, Moscone South, Level 2.

Global spending on cybersecurity products and services is expected to exceed $1 trillion cumulatively from 2017 to 2021. CEOs, CIOs, CISOs, IT security leaders, and business owners tell us they prefer to work with cybersecurity companies in their own backyard. For decision makers in the Asia-Pac region, this is an invaluable list of vendors and service providers to choose from.

Cybercrime Magazine was scheduled to have briefings at the recent RSA Conference USA 2020 in San Francisco with some of the top cybersecurity companies in China. Antiy Labs is the first Chinese company awarded AV-TEST and whose AVL SDK for mobile is now protecting more than 1.7 billion smart devices. ThreatBook is the only Chinese manufacturer selected as a Gartner market guide recommended supplier. Both were unable to attend due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The evolution in RSA themes arguably belies the increasing importance of the conference and the continuing surge in cybersecurity relevance. In 2008, the conference reported 17,000 attendees. Ten years later, that figure had grown to more than 42,000.

The Braindate App will make its debut in late January 2020. This engagement tool blends concepts from online dating apps and crowdsourcing platforms. Opting-in to Braindate is a non-mandatory part of the conference registration.

It was great to be back at RSA Conference in San Francisco this month. For many, it was the first in-person conference since RSA 2020. Attendance was lower at 26,000 compared to 36,000 in 2020, with some vendors and attendees not able to make it due to COVID-19.

Proofpoint was honored to be the recipient of the 2020 SC Media Award for Best Email Security Solution. Winners were selected by cybersecurity industry professionals, including current and former CISOs, vendor-neutral consultants, and educators.

The RSA Conference is where the world comes together to talk cybersecurity. As one of the largest and best-known cybersecurity conferences, RSA brings together industry leaders and revolutionary thinkers for four days in San Francisco to gain knowledge, join in conversations about the latest advancements in cybersecurity and experience cutting-edge solutions that protect the world from emerging threats.

At the 2010 RSA conference, the Obama administration publicly revealed the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative (CNCI), which was created in 2008 and formerly kept a secret.[7][10] In 2011, a California-based IT security company, HBGary, withdrew from speaking and exhibiting at the RSA conference, citing safety concerns. The company announced plans to reveal the identities of some members of the hacktivist group Anonymous and received retaliatory threats and hacks.[11] In 2014, 8 speakers boycotted the RSA conference after its sponsor, RSA Security, was accused of adding a backdoor to its products, so the National Security Agency could monitor users of RSA Security technology. The boycott began with then F-Secure Chief Technology Officer Mikko Hyppönen. He wanted RSA Security to apologize, whereas the company's statement was that the allegations were not true.[12][13] Some noted that the RSA conference and RSA Security company are only loosely connected.[12] Discussion at that year's conference was focused heavily on leaks by Edward Snowden and NSA involvement with American technology companies.[14]
