In the Leslie, he replaced the speakers and belts, cleaned the motors,
rebuilt the pre-amp, and lacquered it black to match the chop (the outside
cosmetics of the 122 were fair, but the lacquer job hid the problems).
The original chop came from a 1965 French Continental model that did not
feel like it had been played very much. The keytops were razor flat, and the
feel of the keys is very uniform and springy. He added EQ, a Trek II
pre-amp, reverb, an effect send, two 122 outputs, a line output, headphone
output, and even a locking keyboard lid that I specifically requested. I've
also seen a lot of talk about locking down generators when moving organs on
this list - Bob shock mounts the generator so you don't have to lock it
down.
He even makes his own shielded Leslie cables - much lighter and smaller than
the cable I have for my Leslie 760, with no ground hum. Aside from the
whirring of the motor, I didn't even notice the Leslie was on until he put
the volume pedal all the way down - the dynamic range of the instrument was
just unbelievable.
Finished weight of the chop is 208 lbs. Still a big, heavy, grueling thing
to carry around, but my digital days are forever done.
Happy Holidays to all,
Nick Peck

Sorry for the last post a moment ago. Pressed the send key for some
reason...
Welcome to the EIS club. I own the first Schlicher chops, made originally
for a guy in the bay area; affectionately known as 'The Oakland Chop'. The
guy ended up not gigging, and the unit was in perfect condition when I
bought it a few years back. Mine has pretty much every bell and whistle,
with the exception of a Trek String Bass unit (one of these days. I agree,
it is one of the best sounding organs I have played. It is a dark Rosewood,
and look fabulous (daa-ling!). Mine plays through a leslie 145, powered by
a McIntosh MC30 tube amp. PLENTY of power.
Cheers, Tomas Jones
> WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A VOLUME PEDAL?
Bob has taken an original swell pedal and mounted a reostat and actuating
mechnism to it. This interfaces with the Trk II preamp.
