Ah, but there is also Gaylord Perry to remember, who was the only pitcher to win
a Cy Young Award in both baseball leagues; retired in 1983 with 314-265 record
and 3,534 strikeouts over 22 years and with 8 teams. He had plenty of friends
and fans.

OK, so I looked up the stats. I was actually trying to look up what team
he played for, becuase I couldn't remember, but the fact remains that he
was a great player.

On a sadder note, after doing this research, I decided on a whim to look up
an old friend of the family in the same sports info page. His name was
Bernie Faloney and he was a Canadian Hall Of Fame CFL Quarterback.
Apparently he died of cancer earlier this year. My family lost touch with
him some years back after we moved to the States, but this still comes as
somewhat of a shock to me.

I know this has no bearing on the current thread, but I'm a little shaken
up by the news and if this is the only tribute I can make to the man who
used to get me autographed photos of his good friend, a young Wayne
Gretsky, then so be it. Bernie was a great man and a good friend, he will
be missed.

LOL! I was just thinking that. I remember in 5th grade there was a kid named

Michael Gaylord, he had no friends.

I saw him pitch with the Rangers when I was a kid. He's one of the only players I
remember from the awful Ranger teams of the 70's. Got caught throwing a grease ball
more than once, didn't he?
