from MTV News:

Van Halen frontman Gary Cherone has posted a so-called "Open Letter to Eddie
Vedder" on an anti-abortion Web site. The post attacks the Pearl Jam singer
for his pro-abortion stance and support of groups such as Rock for Choice.

Cherone's letter is the latest in a series of missives from a pro-life
organization called Rock for Life. The group targeted Lilith Fair last
month, urging a boycott of the recently released Lilith Fair live CDs which
benefit several pro-choice groups.

The post, which is written in a pseudo-lyrical style, begins with the
question, "When is a woman not a woman?" and reflects Cherone's strong,
anti-abortion views. In a company statement, the Rock for Life organization
also attacks R.E.M. for its pro-choice efforts in the past.

A spokeswoman for Vedder had no comment from the singer. Van Halen's
management, who weren't aware of the letter until informed by MTV News on
Wednesday, had no comment as of press time.

Oh is that what it was? I thought it was written in a pseudo-moronic style.

Such a publicity stunt on Cherone's and Rock for Life's parts IMHO. Ed has come
by his pro-choice views honestly and has never been shy about expressing his
views. And he doesn't drag other musicians into it. Wonder if he'll comment on
it at all?

Though I hope he spent his day more pleasurably than thinking about Gary
Cherone : ),

All I can say is, bring back David Lee Roth :P

I heard that too, but I can't remember where. Is there anything in Metal
Sludge about him? I lost their URL and I'm too lazy to look it up, so sue
me.

Wasn't there a blind item not too long ago about a gay metal singer that we
thought could maybe be David Lee Roth? (I think Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie
James Dio were the other big guesses). Hey, maybe VH has had 2 gay singers.
Unless someone wants to start a rumor about Sammy Hagar LOL.

have you read the statement? It's mildly amusing. I like the part about
Eddie Vedder and REM convincing their fans to have abortions. Um, I may have
bought shoes because I saw Kurt Cobain wearing them, but i made up mind
about that issue long before I heard either band.

i wonder what Eddie Van Halen thinks of the whole thing?

one acoustic guitar." "And me!" Stipe chimed in. "Yes, and some guy
singing," agreed Mills. -Cat Mantione Holmes, Athen Daily News 2/9/99

I read, I thought, I paraphrased in some spots-
>> from MTV News:
>>
>> Van Halen('s third) frontman Gary Cherone has posted a so-called "Open

Letter to Eddie Vedder" on an anti-abortion Web site. The post attacks the
Pearl Jam singer for his pro-(choice) stance and support of groups such as Rock
for Choice.
>
>> The post, which is (poorly) written in a pseudo-lyrical style, begins with

the question, "When is a woman not a woman?"

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure you'all will) but shouldn't this question
be 'When is a man not a woman?' In biology class I was taught that all fetuses
begin as girls and that some of them then go on to develop male traits. A minor
point, I know, but in light of the amusing aspects of his 'point' it just seems
downright ironic.
I also liked the part where he said that all women were born free and that
included their right to life (thus negating their right to be free).
