Whether you're dating a guy in a band or just friends with him, one thing
that should be on top of the No No list is doing something as God-awful
cornball-ish as wearing that band's merchandise. And Winona Ryder, of all
people, should know this. She's been around the musical block a few times.
But regardless, she's seen on page 312 of the November issue of Cosmopolitan
in a Green Day hat. (Remember, she's been romantically linked to Green Day's
drummer Tre Cool, and since then has been seen palling around with the
band's lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong). Puh-leeze!...

From what I understand from reading about the MTV awards, Winona's practically
stalking Billy. Besides, aren't all those guys married with kids (not that
that's stopped anyone in the past)?

Ozzy Osbourne's been married to the same woman for eons. And what about Pete
Townsend? I read somewhere he's still married to his first wife although I
thought they split up about 10 years ago when Pete realized he was a woman
trapped in a man's body.

Well, that puts Green Day on my temporary shit list (temporary because I may
find out they had legitimate reasons for dumping their spouses, or maybe even
got dumped themselves). This is a pet peeve of mine -- I call it the Dave
Pirner Syndrome. As soon as you get a little taste of fame and adulation, out
the window goes the faithful chick who's been eating ramen and sitting and
waiting for you to load out all those years. I had this happen to me with my
fiance, and he was just a tattoo artist -- but as soon as he started getting
awards and fans and carte blanche at nightclubs, I was out the door in favor of

Bono has been happily married to Ali Hewson, his high school sweetheart, since
the mid-80's. And if you've ever seen the two of them together, you can tell
they just adore each other completely.

I thought Robert Plant was divorced? I also thought that Roger Daltrey was on
his second, or that he was in a previous relationship that produced children.
I could be wrong. The only other long term rock-marriage I can think of off
the top of my head is Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues.
He and his wife have been married for 30 years.

I think the other guys do, but I know for a fact Bono does not. During the
PopMart tour Ali got a pad in NY because she had to keep an eye on her hubby, as
he had a penchant for shagging other women. Oops.

If we're talking about rock stars who've had long marriages to the same woman
(their first and only wife), then Ozzy doesn't count because Sharon is his
second wife.

Wow, this is really depressing. There's only a *very* short list of rock stars
who've been been married only once and have stayed married for a long time
(longer than 7 years, which is a long time for celebrities).

If we had a list of rock stars who've traded in their first wives for younger
women, usually blondes, (who are mostly bimbos, golddiggers, models or all of
the above), I think it would take me about an hour to compile that list
because there are so many rock stars who've lived that cliche.

So far, here's the list of rock stars who've only been married once and who've
stayed with their wives for several years, for better or worse.

Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones)

Keith Richards (Rolling Stones)...We know he was with Anita Pallenberg for
years before he married Patti Hansen, but since Keith and Anita were never
married, maybe he should be on the list. But he and Anita did have kids
together and were common-law spouses in every sense of the word, so maybe Keith
shouldn't be on the list.

Bono. As I mentioned in a previous message, Bono had a very public affair with
Christy Turlington, so he loses points for any possible "faithful husband"
image.

Jon Bon Jovi. I've heard rumors that he cheats on his wife, but he seems to be
discreet about it.

Chris Cornell.

Pete Townshend. Although he and his wife had a shaky relationship. They've been
separated mnay times.

Paul McCartney. Definitely deserves to be on the list because he stayed with
Linda until the end.

Justin Hayward (The Moody Blues)??? Did we ever get verification that he's only
been married once? Any Moody Blues fans know for sure?

IIRC he and Dorthea didn't rekindle their high school romance until his fifteen
minutes were halfway up. Also, if anyone still has that old issue of SPIN that
came with a free condom, he talks a lot about doing groupies and strippers, and
when the writer insinuates that maybe his wife won't like reading this in SPIN,
he snaps, "If you print it, I'll deny it -- what are you trying to do, ruin my
fuckin' marriage?"

Keith, mch as I love him, doesn't belong on our short list. He definitely
traded in when Anita started to pack on pounds and sag a bit.

Try again, liar. Ali encouraged Bono to remain friends with Christy, even after
he came to her with concerns about the rumors. And in the end, Ali was closer
to Christy than Bono ever was. Doesn't sound too much like an unhappy wife, eh?

LOL, not all. Despite Sassy's claims, Bono is 100% faithful. He's a huge flirt,
but he adores his wife. The Edge was married to Aislinn for several years and
has two daughters with her, but they separated before the recording "Achtung
Baby". He fell in love with Morleigh, their choreographer and belly dancer from
the ZooTV tour. As of now, he's still waiting for a divorce from Aislinn, which
takes a long time in Ireland, but he has another daughter with Morleigh. Larry
has never married but he's been with his girlfriend, Ann, for many years and
has a son with her. And Adam, well, he dated Naomi Campbell, among other. Need
I say more? <g>

I used to know the guys who were in Robert's band in the late '80s, and I spent
some time around them and Robert during their 1988 US tour. After Robert and
Maureen split, he took up with Maureen's sister, of all people (IIRC, her name

(who was trying to get back together with him and was evidently making his life
somewhat difficult as a result, as I overheard him saying once) for a girl from
Colorado named Justine. This Justine chick was really young (19 or 20 at the

skin up close (hey, I'm just trying to add to the gossip).

Not reallly....I think the end of Keith and Anita's relationship had a lot to
do with Anita being arrested for an underage boy committing suicide in her bed.
Also, one of their children died because Anita was a junkie while she was
pregnant. Keith was no angel, but he didn't dump Anita just because she got
fat. She was, from everything I've heard about her, the bitch junkie from hell.

But you're right...Anita was his common-law wife and Keith later married a
much younger woman (and she was a model--what a cliche), so I agree he doesn't
belong on the list.

Good point. I almost forgot about them. The think about Simon is that he
blatantly cheats on Yasmin... Ask any Duran fan. (And who knows, maybe Yasmin

they've stayed married this long, and only to each other.

I believe Ray Manzarak of the Doors has been with his wife
since the mid-60s and married nearly that long.
And if we're counting 10-15 years as a "long time," how about
Keith Richards and Patti Hansen? Or Bruce Springsteen and
Patti Scialfa?
If *old* rock stars count, Paul Anka has been wed to former
model Anne DeZagheb for about 35 years. Frankie Avalon and
wife Kay have been wed about the same length of time and have
*eight* grown-up kids. Going back even farther, Pat and
Shirley Boone have been married *45* years.
I have that "Fave Rave" book lying around here someplace, and
seem to recall that several past teen idols had married their
HS sweethearts and werestill together.

I feel depressed now. 13 forking years....

Thank you! I knew I was forgetting someone really obvious on this list. Yeah, I
think Ray and Dorothy met around 1964 or 1965 and married in either 1967 or
1968. Jim Morrison and his girlfriend Pamela serving as best man and maid of
honor. I've flipped thru Ray's bio and he and Dorothy sound like a very devoted
couple, though of course who knows how faithful he might have been amidst all
the groupies.

They don't quite qualify because they havent' been married for seven years,
only 4, but they have been together for 14 years, so can we give Eddie Vedder
and his wife an honorable mention? It's no mean feat to meet the person you're
going to marry when you're 19 and nothing, like Ed, and then be together after
all the fame etc. Which is why Dave Pirner gets the dishonorable mention LOL.

Bill Berry is divorced, I think, and Peter Buck is on his second marriage--and
wasn't he cheating on his first wife with now-wife Stephanie, or am I wrong
about that? AFAIK, Mike Mills has never been married and neither has Michael
Stipe.

Sharon is the daughter of Don Arden, who used to manage ELO and he owned Jet
Records, which was ELO's record label. Ozzy used to be on Jet Records too.

Don was very powerful in the '70s, at the height of ELO's fame, but I'm not
sure what he's doing now. Maybe he's semi-retired.

And by "trophy wife" I meant the usual definition of a trophy wife...someone
who's much younger than the husband, physically attractive, and *usually* has
no real career/identity of her own. Trophy wives are often golddiggers too.

>Patti Scialfa?

Good call. I forgot about Ray Manzarek and his wife Dorothy. He was interviewed
on a local radio station here in New York when his book came out and he was
asked if he'd ever been unfaithful, what with all those groupies that were
around during the Doors heydey. Ray kind of hemmed and hawed and mumbled
something about it "being the '60s, with free love all around..." so you figure
out the rest. Still, he definitely belongs on the list since he's stayed
married to one woman for all these years.
Bruce Springsteen doesn't belong on the list because Patti is his second wife.

And I think we decided that Keith Richards doesn't belong on the list because
Anita Pallenberg was his common-law wife and he had kids with her before he
married Patti. Even though I'm a big fan of Keith Richards, he did such a
shallow, cliche thing by marrying a model young enough to be his daughter.
Maybe he and Patti are very much in love, but let's face it ---she wouldn't
have given someone like Keith the time of day if he wasn't rich and famous, and
Keith probably wouldn't have married a plain or ugly woman his age. Keith being
rich and Patti being beautiful prbably made it "easier" for them to fall in
love.

Yes, he deserves an honorable mention. Especially since Eddie didn't do the
cliche rock star thing and dump his longtime love for a bimbo model or actress.

Steve Winwood's been married more than once. Eugenia (his current wife) is his
second wife. So he doesn't belong on the list.

The only Rolling Stone who really qualifies is Charlie Watts, since he's only
been married once...and he's stayed married for over 30 years....What a guy!.
We already established that Anita Pallenberg was Keith's common-law wife so
Keith Richards doesn't count. The other Rolling Stoens have been married more
than once. And does anyone know about Mick Taylor? I think he's only been
married once and he's still married.

Meat Loaf...I'm pretty sure he's only been married once so he belongs on the
list.

Someone already mentioned R.E.M. ...Two of them have never been married and the
other two have gone through a divorce.

Robert Palmer's been married more than once, so he doesn't count.

Gloria Estefan and Nancy Wilson most definitely count. In fact, Gloria's
husband was also her first boyfriend. How's that for a fairytale romance?

WEHT Mick Taylor anyway? I always wondered why he left the Stones to return
to the obscurity he enjoyed before he joined the band.

Even though Nancy supposedly had an affair with Jerry Cantrell a couple
years ago. Not that I blame her :) Although I would love to know if the
affair happened before or after her husband, Cameron Crowe, gave him a cameo
in "Jerry Maguire".

I went to see (actually to review) him at a dank little club in Richmond VA in
'90; he was doing a solo thing....anyway, he was an hour late going on, didn't
like the way he sounded, had a hissy fit, kicked the amp and walked off. I was
so disappointed that I was forced to drink a bottle each of Jagermeister and
Brass Monkey and subsequently had to move to the West Coast out of
mortification from what followed. It all turned out for the best, but damn
that Mick Taylor!

Mike Mills never married. Peter Buck is married to his second wife,
Stephanie Dorgan, the owner of the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle. (They have
twin girls, four years old.) And Bill Berry, who was married for around 10
years, I believe, got a divorce from his wife, Mari, sometime before he
announced he was leaving R.E.M. (I don't know any details about the
Berrys. Dorgan, who is only a few years younger than Buck, is not a
younger trophy wife.)

Just a tiny bit of gossip - Roy Wood is my husband's cousin I think
Wood is Mark's grandfather's sister's son). I haven't met him, but
according to Mark, Wood never talked about his ELO days. Wood
lives in - I think, in a village (I forget the name and it is 3am,
right now - so I can't ask Mark) Worcestershire. Wood is a regular at
the village pub, and everyone in the village knows that he's always
fiddling with his mini-studio at his home. Sometimes, he'd take one of
the regulars to his place to listen to his music before giving their
opinion. The current opinion is he is a nutter as the music is quite
'surreal'. As I understand, he's quite talented - he can play quite a
few instruments.

LOL. Naw, Syd 'Crazy Diamond' Barrett is a hardcore Londoner. IIRC, he
was supposed to go to Harrogate for some reason, and he refused
point-blank. So the people had to come down to London. Hm...crazy
musicians, eh? See the other post.

May I grab this opportunity to correct a few details. I have just
spoken to Mark. Wood is Mark's mother's cousin, and he lives in a
village in Hell City (aka Birmingham). Mark thinks Wood is married to
the same woman for over 30 years, so add him to the 'Married Chaps'
list.

Anyway - off-topic - did you all hear that Winona Ryder won the lead
role in 'Girl, Interrupted'? I am seriously bummed about that.

I saw Mick Taylor at the Palomino about four or five years back. He was backing
up some awful singer whom he hated (MT and I had a friend in common.) Mick was
leaving his wife and flying to Florida to meet his much younger girlfriend. I
was asked if we (my husband and I) would let his soon-to-be-ex sleep on our
couch for awhile and once we thought of those long-distance phone calls to FLA,
etc., we said no. We had too many people do the couch tour through our house
already, so we knew what fresh hell that could be.

As to the Neil Young question, Neil has been married more than once but I can't
recall any particulars right now.

What year is this Spin magazine? Jon Bon Jovi has said that
he cheated on Dorothea while they were dating and maybe
even during their early years of marriage. The song Bed of Roses was
all about that, Jon confessing to her and asking for forgiveness.
Since their daughter and son were born in 1993 and 1995

It was before that, I'm sure. I was in college when I was buying SPIN, and I
