Hi folks,

We are looking for a really great gospel song for my son to sing at contest.
He won regionals in the "American Kids" contest and has received 1 ratings
at state competition. He is a bass. Singing experience is 6+ years and is
really coming along well. His state rating of 1 was singing the song
"Trumpeter".

Any suggestions for a good gospel song? Where to get the music?

Sincerely,
Shane Hamilton

Shane,
I really like Big John Hall singing "How Big Is God". He is a
wonderful bass singer and that song was made for him.

It's not gospel, but I would think you couldn't go wrong with Tennessee Ernie
Ford's song about "I Owe my Soul to the Company Store." With the right vocal
inflections alittle "creative holding" there with thetempo 7 all, I think your
kid could probably wak away with trophy in hand.

"Sixteen Tons" (Tennessee Ernie's well known song) is hardly gospel just
because it mentions "soul". Although it is a good song and he was one
of my very favorite singers and a Christian. Just about any of the
hymns he sang would be good though.

Agreed. If anything, the song makes light of the value of a soul.

you will find a piece titled "Trust in Me" which is a choral-with-solo
adaptation of what was originally a solo song that I wrote for myself
(I'm your generic bass-baritone). Simply sing the solo, sans chorus,
and there you have it!

Hope it works.
