I believe "health reasons" was the official word that was released when he
came off the road.

Sonya still makes appearances with The Isaacs. She's on their latest
recording as well. I haven't heard much about her country career lately, so
I'm assuming it's flopping just like almost every other Gospel>Country
crossover attempt in recent memory (Kim Hill, Susan Ashton, Russ Taff etc.).
What worked for the Oak Ridge Boys isn't so easy anymore.

So making one country album makes Sonja country, but making one gospel album
doesn't make a country singer gospel....hmmmmm

I don't remember exactly how long ago she switched

How big was she in SG? I never heard her name before she sang country. I
can't recall a record label ever pushing her stuff to Christian retail since
I became involved with that industry in 1992.

I believe Faith Hill sang with the Steeles as a part
of that group the way Sonja was a part of the
Isaacs. She was not a solo artist.

I had heard that the Steeles used to use a number of different singers from
their church youth group to go sing with them. Faith was one of many
female singers they used from their church to sing with them in those days.
As such, while she did "sing with" the Steeles, she was never really a
"member" of the Steeles group, as we know them today. I realize it's a bit
of a moot point, but if this is true, then she wasn't exactly a part of the
Steeles, like Sonya Isaacs was a part of the Isaacs. (If I'm not mistaken,
I picked this point of trivia up the last time Faith Hill's name was
mentioned on this board.)

Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Keep on pickin'

An hour show can't cover the artists entire life. Just because VH1 didn't
mention it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Back to the original question - I asked Adam who plays mandolin for the
group about Joe Isaacs, and he stated that Joe has back problems and the
long bus rides were getting to be too much for him. The group sounded
very good the last time we heard them in Clanton, AL in December.
Sonja and hubby were there also.

Well, according to Jeff Steele, he regrets "letting her get away" so he
obviously must have considered her a part of his group. Why is this so
important to argue, anyway? Faith Hill definitely performed with the
Steeles. Why not just accept it?

I accept it and don't have any problem with it. Was just curious what her
level of involvement was, that's all. Like I said, it was a moot point.
Thanks for clearing it up.

They will continue to perform as a group until their contractual
obligations are fulfilled. But the Isaacs will eventually fade from
the scene, due to the various members taking different paths in their
careers and/or marriages. It is sad, as they are a unique sound and
rank among my favorites.

FAITH HILL WAS NEVER WITH CEDAR RIDGE. KAREN TREECE WAS WITH CEDAR RIDGE,
SHE WENT ON TO SING BACK UP FOR TAMMY WYNATT AFTER SHE AND HER HUSBAND, JEFF
TREECE, DIVORCED.

CEDAR RIDGE NO LONGER TRAVELS AND PERFORMS. I KNOW THEM, THEY HAVE BEEN IN MY

Chill out, man. The person who wrote that freely admits they're "outside the
loop." What did you expect? :o)

Which brings up an interesting question to those few of you who use
aliases...why? And what does your particular alias mean?

I stick "SG Fan" after my name because at one time there were two David
Murrays posting to rec.music.christian. One of the regulars suggested that
if I identified myself as the "David Murray" who is a Southern Gospel fan,
they could tell us apart. I'd be interested in hearing other stories about
aliases. Outside the Loop, WReunion, etc., how about it?

Mine doesn't mean anything it is just the initals to my first name middle name
and maiden name and then my married last name.
