Hey, they're growing on me... I don't I'll ever bring myself to like
the Lewis Family LP I've got tho'.
You can count me in as a McKamey fan. How about a little history nugget, A
small rural church in my area has had the Mc's for years. They spent a lot
of time with a certain family when they were in the area. Once they were
there and a elderly lady was a shut in and would not be able to attent the
sing at the church. Someone asked the Mc's to sing for grandma. You would
expect them to sing a little but they sang like they were at NQC. They did
their best for this one old lady. The marks of a real champion, doing your
best for one or for one thousand.
This is not the only reason I am a fan. #1 I think they are true blue, human
but honest in what they are. #2 They have a real talent in my kind of music.
#3 We all like to see some action and Peg answers the call. She acts like
she believes what she sings.
I posted praising the Mc's not let me tell of a mistake they were reported
to have made several years ago at a church where some of my family members
serve. Not to complain about the Mc's but to maybe prevent you from doing
something similar. I feel if they had ever thought about what they were
doing they would have done different and it was not intended.
The Mc's pulled their bus right up next to the church to unload, which is
understandable. The church was having SS or some regular services before the
singing was to start. Not only did they not attend the services (most likely
a reason for that and I understand but some in the church felt slighted) the
real problem was the generators were running on the bus and caused noise
pollution in the church. The church was offended but probably said nothing
to them as far as I know.
I understand pulling close, I understand the generators running but move the
bus if it must run while a church is having services.

I am not totally wild about The McKameys, but I do like their version
of God on the Mountain. It's one of those songs that sort of
"belongs" to a group.
I agree. Like so many other songs (Wish You Were Here--Kingsmen, Please
Forgive Me--Crabb Family, Two Shoes--Insp. etc.) they make the group. Every
time they play the first one or two notes of the song, the croud breaks into
shouts and applause. They know they've come for a blessing.
I don't know about several years ago, but nowadays the McKameys do not
take dates on Sundays, but are always at their home church, where Peg
teaches Sunday School. I've always admired them for that! They sing
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm certainly no fan of generators,
but they are necessary to maintain refrigeration, etc. But a bus can
usually be moved farther away. Sometimes a simple word to the driver
is all it takes. Love the McKameys!
Of anyone I know, the McKameys would be the first to honor a request to move
their bus. To cause offense to a church would not be something they'd want
to do.

The Lewis Family is a mixed bag for me. I'm a Roy Lewis fan due to his
comedic skill, but I don't really care for their singing. The younger guy is
great on the guitar, though.
I don't care for the McKameys' singing, but Peg can be entertaining to
watch. I wouldn't say that I hate them. They seem like super nice folks who
are very down to earth with their fans at their booth. It's just that their
set is usually a great time at NQC to browse the product tables for me! :o)

Yeah, it's pretty silly for the church members to choose to be offended
rather than simply asking the group to have their bus moved further away
from the building. It's always easier to sit back and gripe rather than take
action.
Why do all of your posts look like you're quoting someone else?
Ralph Stanley does have that nasal thing going on, doesn't he? I had hoped
they'd let him sing "Oh Death" on the Gaither bluegrass videos. I don't know
why, but they have him doing the same song on both DVDs.

In the spirit of a kindler, gentler AMGS, I'm going to try to sit this round
out. Call me a Murray Ditto-head, except I will admit that I stayed in to
catch a portion of their set at NQC this past year. Let me assure you,
nothing's changed.

Yeah, I try to catch one of their sets every three or four years or so.
Maybe we should get the AMGS group that meets each year to rotate. Of
course, Stuart likes them, so he could just go every year and give us a
report.

BTW, a recent addition to our church was formerly Clarke Beasley's secretary
for NQC. I could have had free tickets when she worked for them, but always
put it off... What a dummy I am.

Hey Dan... I've seen them perform on GMTN. You may be able to see them over
the Internet on that channel. I'm thinking good thoughts for you getting a
pastorship (and a well paying one at that). In the meantime, be happy and
at peace.
Take care,
David

Have the McKamey's been on any of the Gaither videos? I don't think
I've ever seen them.....
I dunno, CJB....I once heard Peg talk about how Gaither looked them up
at NQC one year to tell them that he enjoyed "I'm Going Through" and
told them about singing that song growing up in the Nazarene church.
