My current workaround to use it in Linux/Windows is just to install the Chrome extension as an application, the problem is that it only has light mode and I have not found another extension that fixes this issue.
I've tried searching for this, and the closest related question that I could find was from 3+ years ago and had to do with the incognito window being dark, while a normal chrome window was light back then.
In the image above you can see that the first and third icons are black, so they are hard to see when using dark-mode. The middle icon (the one I'm using for my extension)looks great on dark mode, but terrible on light mode. See below:
Also, I think it makes sense to use the version of your icons that work best on light-mode as your default, because I think the chrome extension page will pull from these for some of the icons they use (and that page has a white background). As an example, here's how my old icon looked (not enough contrast).
I was wondering if there was a way to get a dark version of the icon for the Chrome 1Password extension? The classic extension had an icon that blended well with Chrome's dark mode, but the latest version of the current extension does not seem to provide this despite having selected "Dark Mode".
Yes that would be great if you could open a feature request. It is very jarring in dark mode and defeats the purpose. It is entirely the reason why I have not yet bothered to update until I absolutely have to.
chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark is really useful, but it will enable dark mode globally ie. for all other websites as well leaving no need for (the excellent) Dark Reader extension :-)
It's March of 2021. With the millions and millions you make, how have you not designated a tiny percentage of a fraction of your budget to giving something to users that they're begging for?
iOS app now has it but the WORLD'S MOST USED OPERATING SYSTEMS, Windows and Android, don't have a dark mode. This is maddening and appalling. Get your **bleep** together, LastPass and LogMeIn.
Bump! Please prioritize this feature. The last pass extension is the last non-dark app/site I ever visit. I have lowered my HDR settings on my 4k monitor because of blinding effect. I will start to wear my sunglasses or a welding mask when I open the extension instead.
Today I saw this article by albertomontalesi about adding a 'dark mode' to your website. I have done such a thing already years ago but in a different way (it was a chrome extension example) and since I haven't posted anything in months, why not?
This JSON file says the extension wants permission to access every tab, a browser action button will be added to the chrome menu and it will load background script script.js which you can find below.
Certain websites such as YouTube that detect and apply dark theme based on system theme do not work in Zorin the same as they do in windows. I have a dark mode extension but I like to whitelist the websites that have their own dark mode and it's annoying to keep changing it back when switching from Windows to Zorin. It also does not apply dark mode to settings. I have an extension in VS Code that also applies a theme based on system theme but doesn't work in Zorin for whatever reason so maybe it's not just a Chrome issue. Any fix for this?
Thanks anyway, not too big of a deal just a minor annoyance. I just noticed that the YouTube site has a menu where I can toggle dark mode on and off so at least I can activate it that way however my dark mode extension has a setting to activate by system theme so I have to set that with the time scheduler instead.
These days, lots of developers like to use dark mode. And it's no surprise, as activating dark mode reduces eye strain and leads to better eye health. It also helps both machines and humans perform better overall.
In this article, I will show you how to turn on the dark theme on your Google Chrome app, on both Windows machines and Android phones. We'll also learn how to turn on dark theme for Google with some Chrome extensions.
Dark mode is a feature that shows light text on a dark background. Because of the lower levels of blue light, it is more comfortable and better suited to dark environments. It can also appear as a more attractive alternative depending on the user and help improve device battery life.
A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen to relaunch the browser, select this and Chrome will restart. Navigate to Google Sheets to see the changes. The sheet remains white but the Menu ribbon, options, the slider, and the Sheet Names go into dark mode.
I switched back to Dark Reader its not as clean as the zendesk extension but it does the job.
I have some sites I don't want in dark mode, so I use the site list section on the plugin and add the ones I do want in dark mode to inverted list only. That way the ones I have native dark mode it doesn't mess with.
Hi ...,
I used to use the Chrome extension you mentioned until they started asking for $2/m. This is a must-have feature for all your customers. I'm really having a hard time now working on your platform. We all want the dark mode to be available as an option, and you should support that.
Almost everything now has a dark mode option, and it's for a reason. Please deliver this request to whoever can make a decision at Zendesk to make it happen.
Actually, I have to follow back up on my last comment I just made. I was using ZD dark mode theme add on in chrome. As most of you know they now charge for a monthly fee...which is ridiculous (at least it feels like) so I turned that off. However it looks like "Dark Reader" the Chrome extension works for ZD as well as other apps (G-suite apps included. Everyone try it out and see how it works.
I agree. It looks like Dark Reader is the best free alternative to Zendesk Dark Mode Theme by
growthdot.com at the moment.
Zendesk Dark Mode Theme by
growthdot.com colors looked better, though. I hope Zendesk will add a dark mode similar to the Dark Mode theme by
growthdot.com. It should've been done a long time ago.
if you want to change chrome to dark mode you can just turn the header to dark theme by changing the theme (mine is slate btw) and if you want to change the google page to dark theme there is an option do to do sohere
Google Chrome has an extension for smart inversion and high contrast which adjusts websites.
The legacy Edge used to do this as a part of system wide high contrast in Windows, and I wondered if this might come to the new Edge, especially since Microsoft pioneered dark mode so well and has honed it for many years.
I used the system wide high contrast shortcut (Alt+LShift+PrintScreen) many times for reading outdoors or when I wanted to conserve my battery and run lower brightness indoors. I still use the legacy edge for this, since the Chrome extension isn't perfect and seems to make webpages load far slower.
Any plans to introduce this?
Airtable, despite its vast array of features and its versatility in managing databases, doesn't have a built-in dark mode. For those who prefer a darker interface, especially when working at night or in low-light conditions, this can be a drawback. However, there is a workaround for this. With the help of Google Chrome extensions, it's possible to enable dark mode for Airtable. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do that:
If you want to enable the dark mode only for Airtable, not for other websites, many extensions, including Dark Reader, allow you to set preferences on a per-site basis. To do so, click on the extension icon while on Airtable and select the option to enable dark mode only for the current site.
Dark Mode is definitely a trending user preference on our radar, but proper implementation also requires reviewing & updating existing image assets and styles so they either work in both light & dark modes or have alternative variations. Something worth doing is also worth doing right .
Until an official dark mode is available for your favourite web destinations, you can also personalise the browser experience by creating (or finding) community themes using a browser extension like Stylus. See Dark MongoDB Docs (
userstyles.org) for a quite usable example.
Dark Mode (or Dark Theme) is a user interface display setting for applications, browsers, operating systems, and even websites. Dark mode replaces the default display of dark text against a light background with light text against a dark background. Dark mode minimizes eye strain and prolongs battery life by reducing screen brightness. It is also used solely for its aesthetics.
Dark mode is designed to reduce screen brightness by changing interface colors to a darker shade. This is done in order to minimize eye strain when using your device in underlit surroundings, as well as conserve battery life.
However, as opposed to Dark mode, which darkens the colors and shades of a specific app or interface design, Night mode changes the backlight color emitted by your device. It filters out the blue-white light emitted from the screen which turns your screen yellowish.
