What happened ( I guess way back in the late 70's or early 80's ) to The
Rambos? Dottie, Buck and Reba seemed to have had everything going for them.
Could anyone help me, I'd like to know what really happened to end this group.
Thanks Monroe

They've all appeared (except Buck) at one time or another on the Homecoming
series, and they did a recollection album a while back.

Dottie (a prolific song writer for several years) has had terrible back
problems with serious pain over the years. She and Buck either separated or
got divorced a few years ago. Her daughter, Reba married Donnie McGuire.
(Donnie was originally married to Joy Gardner, who also appears frequently
on the Gaither Video's and is now married to Landy Gardner, choir director
at Christ Church. Landy Gardner was originally married to Reba Rambo)...

As circumstances and fate would have it... they each married each other's ex
spouses... so I've noticed over the years that you rarely see all of them
at the same time on a Gaither Video series. But I've heard they're all very
civil with each other.

The Rambo's were my absolute favorites for many years, and had a wonderful
special blend that can only be found in 'family' groups it seems. The
Martin's are another great example of that blend.

One of the great things about the Rambos in the Heartwarming Record
releases they did, They had great music often featuring lush strings,
the songs arrangements, the vocal blends of the trio, these really
were well produced albums. A musical treat. The Rambo were a huge , in
fact dominate, influence on the trio I sang with in church during
those days.

The changes that came later were hard to take. But much of the music
still endures.

My dad was a Baptist pastor and our family sang in church while we were growing
up. We too learned the Rambos' songs as soon as we would get a new album. I
played the piano and sang Dottie's low part, my sister sang Reba's high part,
and either my mom or dad sang Buck's part. I especially love some of the
lesser known songs that weren't "hits," some of them from the earlier
albums...anybody remember "My Eyes Can See" or "Father, Dear, I'm Coming Home?"

I think I'll go down the basement and dig out my old albums....

Buck was on the first 2 videos "Homecoming" and "Reunion."

They divorced after Buck had a affair with the Rambos secretary. At
least from all my sources that is what happened. It can't be totally
wrong when I hear the same thing from at least 10 different people.

Another point of interest, talking about spouses and ex-spouses, And
this is not any bad gossip or anything, it is common knowledge for a
long time by now, but i just heard that Jack Toney's first wife is
Cheryl Karstonakis, wife of piano great "Dino". Isn't that
interesting!!!!

Well actually, Buck Rambo did appear on the first "Homecoming" video,
the original one of the series.

This Is My Valley was a great song. Don't seem to hear much of it now.
It was a "hit" in our church.

Did Buck performed? I don't recall seeing him on the tapes, but I
haven't seen every single tape.

This I can tell you about Dotti Rambo. She is alive, well and singing. I saw
her last year in Dunn, North Carolina. She was marvelous. What a great evening
of praise and worship.

I invited her to come and be with our church in Angier, North Carolina. She
accepted our invitation and will appear at the Harnett Middle School on
September 15th. I do not have the words to tell how excited we are about
getting this great lady to come to be with us.

We saw Dottie last September at the South Henderson, NC Pentecostal Holiness
Church. My wife and I sat in the second row, where we could see her well in
the crowd of over 800. After a few songs, she looked right at us and said,
"Honey, do I know you?" We had appeared with her some 26 or 27 years ago in
several California concerts! And she recognized us after all these years.
After the service, she spent a good while talking to us after everyone else
had left. She has been a great inspiration to my wife's songwriting, and is
one of the classiest people in Gospel music.

Walter, if you want to hear a phenomenal version of "This Is My
Valley", check out the Booth Brothers' CD "Walkin' On The Good Side".
It will definitely move you...Michael Booth's solo is special.
