I haven't posted as many, but I'm slowly converting old VHS tapes to DVD
and then uploading individual songs to YouTube. My videos can be found
here:

Of particular interest, yesterday I posted a video of the Cathedrals'
Dove Award performance of "This Old House" with Kurt Young singing tenor.
We discussed this performance in this group several years ago, and I e-
mailed .mp3 soundclips to those that requested them. Now you can see it
for yourself. Kurt was replaced by Ernie Haase within a few weeks of
this performance.

Some time back, there was a thread concerning copying VHS to DVD. I think
it started with a request by Carol on equipment and techniques. Who was the
authority on this subject?

you must open His book to find the answers.
That was a typical sorry sound mix from the producers of the Dove Awards. I
haven't watched the Doves in years, but it used to be that bad every year.
If they'd had Mark and Glen in the mix at all, Kurt's boo-boo wouldn't have
been nearly so obvious.

This was the first time I'd seen this in it's entirety since it aired
in 1990. The first thing that I noticed when I watched last night was
how hot Kurt was in the mix. I didn't notice things like that 18 years
ago...LOL!
Some other things I picked up on:
For all the criticism Amy Grant gets from SG fans, she was the first
one out of her seat at the end of the song.
Speaking of which, the Cats got a huge reaction when they hit the
stage and a standing ovation in spite of the flub.
Notice Mark Trammell patting Kurt on the back during the song, trying
to encourage his teammate.
Did you notice how Younce acted like everything was normal? "Yeah, I'm
a gettin' ready to meet the saints!" He was probably thinking "Yeah,
and you're a gettin' ready to draw unemployment!" Young, to his
credit, acted like all was well, holding his mic in the air like he'd
just hit one out of the park. I would love to hear Kurt's side of what
happened that night. From all accounts, he had done a good job with
Priority and is a really good guy.
Once, somebody asked Ernie Haase about this on the EHSS message board.
Ernie took the high road, saying Kurt was really good, but things
didn't work out so the Cathedrals had to settle for some guy from
Evansville.
I'd been wanting to see that Gospel Jubilee clip of "Oh, What A
Savior" for a long time. Thanks! I was also thrilled to see the
Goodmans doing "Home". Do you know what TV program that was from? Do
you have any more video of this rendition of the group?
Yes I really enjoy the videos Dean Adkins (The Professor)has put on
Youtube. He has put videos of several different groups and he even has
some of GHB, some featuring his brother Will Adkins, Will Adkins isn`t
pretty but he can sure sing bass.

You`re not kidding Clarence, if it WERE a beauty contest J.D. would`ve
never made it, would he?

Oh yeah. That was as poor a mix as you'll ever hear. Did you notice Younce
really overdoing it a few times too? I have to wonder if he was hearing
himself at all. Maybe the monitor mix was as bad or worse. Amazingly
poor...

You sir, are awesome. You made my day, truly.
I especially loved hearing Hamill on Dean Adkins site with the Rebels. I
love it.

In '94 or '95, the Cathedrals did "Jesus Saves" and it sounded like
George's mic wasn't even on.
I thought the Dixie Echoes doing "Trouble In My Way" was a fun piece
of footage. Dale Shelnut was a great one.
I'm not going to mention names! LOL!
Yeah, it's cool to see Hammill as a younger man. He really shows off
his range on those clips.
Ok, Scott has posted another Cathedrals video with Kurt. They sing "In
The Depths Of The Sea" on Nashville Now and sound about 100% better.
As much as I loved the Cathedrals version, I thought "Pray" was better
suited to be an a capella arrangement like the Melody Boys do.

It was from the show "Sing Out America". Either the show was around for a
long time or it was resurrected in the late 80's/early 90's. It was hosted
by Bill Traylor, Kelly Nelon Thompson and Rusty Goodman. They would banter
between every song, which led to there being as much talking as singing on
each 30 minute show. There would be old videos (all of my Cathedrals
videos with Kirk Talley came from this show) and new videos. All of the
new videos were performed in the same "large den"-looking studio and they
were all lip-synced. The artists that I recall from the new performances
were the Singing Americans (w/Barker & Inman), the Florida Boys, the
Paynes, Squire Parsons, Rusty Goodman, and Sam Goodman. One other
interesting thing from the "new" videos is that they tried to sell them as
actual performances by having a house band on stage. The band was
comprised of David Ponder, Michael Sykes and Woody Wright with an
additional female backup singer when required. When Rusty or Sam sang,
Tanya was the female backup singer. When anyone else sang, there was a
different female singer. The "old" videos were actual performances and
were recorded on a traditional TV soundstage.
I have one other song with that particular Goodmans lineup, but it isn't of
the group singing. Let me explain. Rusty introduces a song that Mosie
Lister composed for a musical or cantata that he had written. Mosie wrote
the song with Rusty in mind and asked Rusty to portray Peter in the
musical. The song is a solo for Rusty, with the occassional "ooh", "aah"
and other minor background part. Sam, Mike and Tanya "sing" the background
parts on the video but in reality the vocals are on the soundtrack, so the
three of them were just lip-syncing.
I remember seeing "Sing Out America" in the early 90's. It was 100%
lip synch at that point. Gold City did a song from "Double Take" and
Tim Riley even lip synched the song introduction!
