Hi,

Is anyone familiar with the Piano Course offered by Roger Bennet
(http://members.aol.com/SthrnGospl/Keyedup.html) ?

With Roger Bennet's name on it, I am sure that it is of good quality, but
what I am curious about is whether or not is simple enough for beginners.

Any other courses which anyone could recommend for "Playing by EAR" would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hello,

I have all of Roger's piano course products. For a beginner, I would
recommend getting the first of his 2 course videos. It teaches more of
the beginning techniques and where to begin in gospel music.

The second video is more challenging. It has more of the songs that he
does with the Cathedrals and the techniques he uses. There's no music
with the second video so you have to be able to pick it up by ear a lot
but he does go line by line on what to play. He always says there's a
rewind button on your VCR for a reason.

The tape of the month product is good. You learn either new techniques
or solos each month.

He tries very hard to make it easy enough for the beginner yet
challenging enough for the more advanced player.

Hope this helps,

Nathan Maack

I ordered Roger Bennet's Piano Course and I couldn't understand a thing. He
assumes too much. He is so knowledgeable that he just takes for granted that
we know what he is talking about. I am sorry to say so but I found it a
waste of money.... I was wanting to learn some fill-ins and runs and it had
nothing useful. Unless you understood music very well to begin with.. Hope
you find what you are looking for though

I do not have Roger's course, but I have the one from Jeff Stice. It's
pretty good. He gives you a pretty thorough follow through.
Unfortunately he stresses playing in octaves and my fingers are very
short. You might check it out. I'm not sure where I got it, but I'm
sure someone in the group knows where you can get it.
