Press Release - March 11, 2000
Steve "Rabbit" Easter, musician extraordinaire, and the recipient of the
1997, 1998 and 1999 Singing News Fan Award "Musician of the Year,"
recently announced his plans as a solo artist, effective immediately.
"Rabbit," who has remained at the forefront of Southern Gospel Music,
performing with The Crabb Family since late 1998, plays steel guitar,
banjo, dobro, guitar and bass. The decision to leave the group was made
after considerable thought and prayer to enable Steve to spend more time
with his family. His program will consist of singing and
instrumentation.
"Rabbit" is available for bookings for churches, concerts, bluegrass
festivals and other venues. His last performance with The Crabb Family
will be on March 12th.While only 42, Easter has been a favorite
performer
serving in several groups. After sharing the stage with his family
group,
The Easter Brothers, for eleven years, he joined The LeFevres in 1976.
During his four-year tenure with The Happy Goodman Family, he served as
the first and only banjo player for the group. They also gave him the
name
"Rabbit." After a few years as a studio engineer and musician, he joined
The Nelons in 1988. In 1989, Steve, Jeff and Sheri Easter announced
their
plans to travel as a group, which gave Steve new visibility among fans
as
a vocalist as well as a musician. He left Jeff and Sheri in February
1998
and formed his own group "The Rabbit Easter Band". The group was
disbanded
in late 1998 but not before they received a 1999 Dove Award nomination
for
Country Recorded Song of the Year for "He Chose To Wear A Crown" from
their only project "The Rabbit Easter Band". With Rabbit in the band,
the
Crabb Family Band won "Favorite Band" in the 1999 Singing News Fan
Awards.
Just prior to winning the Singing News Fan Award in 1997, "Rabbit"
emerged
to center stage to record a solo project for Daywind Records, entitled
"Friends." This project portrays Easter's instrumental genius, and he is
joined by some of Gospel Music's greatest vocalists, including Ivan
Parker, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Rabbit's dad James Easter, Charlotte
Penhollow Ritchie, Bo and Rhonda Hinson, Jason Crabb, Tim Surrett and
the
Isaacs and others. This project was Album of the Year (Southern &
Bluegrass Gospel) for the Association for Independent Music.Easter has
received several awards In addition to the Singing News Fan Award for
1997, 1998 and 1999. These include: The Gospel Voice "Diamond Awards"
for
the years 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1997, Instrumentalist of the Year for
1999
(Kentucky Gospel Music Association), Instrumentalist of the Year in 1994
(for the State of Georgia), an award by the International Country Gospel
Music Association (ICGMS), Instrumentalist of the Year 1997 (Heart
Aflame
Awards, voted by the Southern Gospel Music Guild). In addition, the
"Pickin' The Best Live" album by Jeff and Sheri Easter was nominated for
a
Grammy in 1992. Steve was also nominated for the Anthony Burger Award at
the Singing News Fans Awards for the years 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996.
Steve is married to Sharon, his wife of 20 years, and they have one
child,
Molly, age eleven.

I have also known Gerald Crabb for a number of yeas. He too is a wonderful
man of God. The only thing that I can say to Rabbit is that he should
listen to Jeff and Sherri's song, "Been there...Done that." I wish him
well, however, his talents are more complimentary in nature rather than
center stage...we'll see!
Good luck Rabbit!

From Jim Hamill. Since everyone's heard of the "easter rabbit," he thought
someone with a last name of "easter" would answer to "rabbit."

Making hay while the sun shines.
This is totally off the subject, but so hilarious I thought some of you
would like to check it out. It's called "Dialectizing." We've been playing
with something similar to this over in rec.music.christian lately and
everyone enjoys it. To transform text into a "dialect," see
http://rinkworks.com/dialect/
An example is given for the post above in "Elmer Fudd." I thought that would
be pretty funny since the post was about Rabbit Easter.
"Wabbit is a gweat guy.
I have awso known Gewawd Cwabb fow a numbew of yeas. Oh, dat scwewy wabbit!
He too is a wondewfuw man of God. De onwy thing that I can say to Wabbit is

Here's one more example in the "Swedish Chef" dialect. Bork! Bork!
