I was hoping he would stay around and sing on speciality songs, kind
of like Jack does,

But I wish him the best. It will seem strange to see anyone singing
tenor for them but Archie!!

You might say Archie has been The Inspirations sound.

Absolutely James. He's a very familiar tenor, and was what I'd call
the signature of the group.

Paul, I doubt he's really considering it an "career" he's embarking
on. Probably more like gonna enjoy slowing down the pace a little and
sing at his own pace, with low over head.

He definitely deserves and warrants it.
IMHO.

That's right Chuck, I imagine he's pretty tired of traveling after 45
years.

By the way, I notice in the SN announcement that he was continuing his
"Ministry".
He considered his profession a ministry instead of a "career". Can
you imagine that?

I pray God continues to bless his ministry.

OK. so, ministry/career whatever.
He had no voice last September at NQC.
One night he had to have someone sitting at the side of the stage with a
microphone singing for him so he could lip-sync his part.
I just thought it was odd to go out on his own when it would be obvious that
his voice is shot where he could blend in with the quartet.
Maybe if he does only 1/10th of the dates his voice will come back some and
it will work out.
I like Archie and wish him only good things.

Agreed. I'm actually looking forward to hearing them now. :o)

Holcomb is awesome, and Dallas Rogers will be a great improvement at the
tenor spot. He has some of the same character in his voice as Watkins, but
he's not nearly as piercing in terms of his tone. I hope their fans will
give him a chance without making him sick telling him he's no Archie Watkins
every night. It's not true, but fans can be irrationally brutal when someone
replaces a legend.

It would be great to hear their sound entirely redefined with a couple of
other needed changes, but the truth is that the primitive charm that
attracts their fans now would not carry over if they suddenly did a complete
overhaul in every area that's lacking.

Take baby steps...and fans will grow to love you. Change too much at once,
and they'll drift away.

Yes, Holcomb is an awesome bass, I haven't heard Dallas Rogers sing
yet but I may prefer his tenor voice over Archie. Rosie Rozell IMO is
my favorite all-time tenor and I've heard other tenors with the
Statesmen and said privately "they didn't come up with Rosie",but I
think it would be wrong to tell a singer who replaced another that
they weren't as good. I know too that Cecil Blackwood wasn't the
singer RW was, but Cecil was very nice to our family and at the
suggestion of Rosie put my brother on the talent contest at the NQC
(which he won)and got him to record an album.

I noticed on Archie's website they have posted some pictures from his
last concert. His brothers, sisters, wife and daughters were there.
Also it looks like all of the former Inspirations were there as well.
It was good to see Troy there. He doesn't normally take part in the
reunion concerts for some reason. But it is especially good to see
him up and around after having heart problems a few weeks back.
