Is this it??

The Glory Road

Glad we're together on the Glory Road
We've seen some sights and we've had some laughs
Seen the ghosts of all them Okies,
Drinking Grape Nehi and wine made from the
Grapes of wrath

The ice cream stands and the salty truck stops
Hum Dingers and the auto graves
Coca Cola and the no-tell motels
Barber shops and Burma shaves

We'll beat the dust storms
Comin' over the farmlands
Got a grease monkey tunin' up the Pontiac
We imagine pickin' up soldiers
Comin' home for Christmas
With Steinbeck, and Guthrie, and Kerouac

We've explored the patchwork of Americana
The curios and the burger plates
We got a blessing from the Queen of the Highway,
Paid attention to a sign that said "Jesus Saves"

Sand traps, soft shoulders, wash out, deep ruts
Hustlers, cops and wrecker drivers
Sometimes the world's just got it
out for us

Moonlight falls on The painted desert
Gershwin flows out of Our radio
I swear there will be Peace In the valley for Us, baby
Someday, peace for us
Peace in the valley for us, Baby, I swear, peace for us

Glad we're together on
The Glory Road
Hey, let's go crazy and thicken the plot
Can't back out now that we've paid our admission
There's just one exit from the Mystery Spot

We hit the Metro out in Tulsa
bought a steer horn at Pecan Joe's
Saw the blue whale in Catoosa
The reptile farm in Cuba, MO.

If at the end of the line there ain't no pot-of-gold,
Just the Santa Monica pier,
Well, we loved our biscuits and gravy
And learned to twirl a rope
And enjoyed what
We had while we were here

How about this one?

Going in circles, can't seem to find what you're looking for.
Life's a maze of questions guaranteed to keep you asking more.
Trust your heart to bring you what's been aching you
Keeping it real, doing what you've gotta do

(Chorus)
You're getting so close; you're tearing apart in search of the promise land.
You're riding all alone, lost in love, looking for someone you can hold.
Your fate will guide the way
To brand new dawning days
Get on your knees and pray "Take me to the glory road!"

Brand new worlds await you away from all the things that drive you mad.
Get up on your feet, I know you're sick and tired of being sad.
Follow that light all the way to paradise
Take your chance; let your heart roll the dice
(To chorus)

Take your chance and never look back again
On your regrets that haunt your dreams over again
Don't be afraid to let your feelings take control
And always believe there's help for a lonely soul
(To chorus)

Glory road
Glory road
Glory road
Glory road

Oh brother, Paul! LOL

I think he means the one written by Conrad Cook and sung by the Kingsmen in
the 70's.

FWIW, I've never seen a second verse, and I have a pre-Kingsmen version of
it on a Calvaryman LP. The Calvarymen was Conrad Cook's group, who Squire
Parsons sung with before going professional with the Kingsmen. I will
double check tho.

I don't remember anything called "The Glory Road" done in the 70's by the
Kingsmen or anyone else. I just went on the internet and got all of the
gospel songs listed called "The Glory Road"
Evidently, the Kingsmen one was not very popular since the lyrics can't be
found anywhere. Just trying to help.

No problem. I guess since a West Virginian (Conrad Cook) wrote it, and a
West Virginian (Ernie Phillips) sung it, I've heard it all my life. I
assumed it was popular.

I'm gonna do some research on this.

Here are the lyrics, transcribed from the Kingsmen's "Big and Live" album of
1973. There's no second verse, at least in this rendition...

Is this road you're traveling
Dark, deserted or dim
Is there hope for tomorrow
Put your trust in Him

On this glory road I'm traveling
Many times I've stumbled on my way
But praise the Lord I'll soon be leaving
To that land of perfect peace and endless day

I can see the lights of home
I can see Him on His throne
I'm too near to turn back now
Oh praise the Lord I'm heaven bound
When my journey here shall end
I'll say goodbye to this world of sin
In that fair land I'll take my stand
It's good to be on this road to gloryland

I can see the lights of home
I can see Him on His throne
I'm too near to turn back now
Oh praise the Lord I'm heaven bound
When my journey here shall end
I'll say goodbye to this world of sin
In that fair land I'll take my stand
It's good to be on this road to gloryland

I've been singing it for years and I've never seen a second verse. The
arrangement I sing, sings the verse once and chorus twice.

It was pretty popular around here. I'm sure you're bound to have heard it at
NQC sometime in the past. You may have thought the title was "I Can See The
Lights Of Home," though, as Glory Road isn't the most obvious title. The
Kingsmen first introduced it on _Big and Live_ in 1973, which featured
Johnny Parrack on the tenor part.

A number of groups have sung it over the years, though. The Kingdom Heirs
recorded it on their _Feelin' At Home_ project. What's annoying about the
remakes is that they always do a virtual note-for-note of the Kingsmen
version. That song is begging for a re-write. We used to sing it up-tempo,
which was a lot of fun.

My internet search came up with this:
The Trio sings this song on the CD/Video of Bill and Gloria Gaither's "Oh,
My, Glory!" and the companion Homecoming Song book has it.

I tried to listen to the song of the Trio and I believe that they sing a
second verse. I found it difficult to understand every word that was sung.

Actually It was a very popular song back in the day. However the title
of the Kingmen song was Glory Road not The Glory Road & was, within
the last few years, redone by the Trio. It was a top 10 hit for The
Kingsmen but I am not sure if it went to #1 or not...

You have got to remember that we don't get a whole lot of the "non-title"
songs here in the north. If it isn't on Gospel Greats or some syndicated
program like that we just don't get SG up her in Illinois.
We have seen the K'men many times and it was not a song that was part of
their concert repertoire either. So I just went fishing on Google.
No problem.

I don't have the original LP of _Big And Live_, but the re-issue that came
out on cassette in 1998 lists the title as "The Glory Road." Including a
"the" would make no difference in a Google search, anyway, because Google
ignores common words like that.

Guys, this is my third attempt to reply to you. I can't see my own reply on
my server, so I doubt you can see it.

If you can, let me know.

It's listed as "The Glory Road" on the original release too.

This is really embarrassing.

I just received my copy of King's Gold. The song Glory Road is on that
album.
It was written by Conrad Cook.

I did a search on google and found out that the lyrics are available in
Gaither's Homecoming songbook #6.

I own that songbook, so I have had the lyrics and music to this song all
along.

there is no second verse.

Is this road you're travling dark, deserted and dim?
Is there hop for tomorrow? Put your trust in Him.
On this glory road I'm travling many times I stumble on my way
But, praise the Lord, I'll soon be leaving for that land of perfect peace
and endless day.

Chorus:
Now I can see the lights of Home and I can see Him on the throne.
I'm too near to turn back now, Oh praise the Lord I'm Heaven bound;
When my journey here shall end, I'll say good bye to a world of sin

In that fair land I'll take my stand

It's good to be on this road to glory land.

And I now know that I did know this song all the time.
Sorry guys. This is a good one on me.
