As I'm playing in a Golden Earring cover/tribute band and trying very hard
to create the right sound, I would like some background on the equipment
(amps, effects, guitars, .... )
Here's what ( I think) I know already:
George playes on Koch KC-50 heads with TS212 cabinets for overdrive sound
and two Roland JC-200 amps (cabinets unkown) for the clean sound. Main
guitar is a BC Rich Bich USA 10 string (he only uses 6 strings) with Seymour
Duncan Jeff Beck humbuckers. The guitar has a pre-amp build inside for the
more heavy sound (like in Radar Love). I believe he bought this guitar
somewhere in the late 70's / early 80's in the States during one of their
tours.
I'm stil looking for more information on the effects and other guitars as
well as a complete description of his set-up.

In the fanclub magazine from some years ago, George mentioned that he is not
using the build-in preamp. Also the knobs on the guitar controlling the
2-build in pre-amps are removed by dummy's.
I've got the 10-string Bich as well and it takes everytime 2 nine-volt
batteries to run the pre-amps. And that's to much to change them everytime,
so I don't use the pre-amps neither. Playing six strings means that the D G
B and E string are doubled like a twelve string. Another nice feature is the
6-turn knob at which you can also control the sound. Build-in resistors
transform the sound at every click of this knob.
George saw this guitar for the first time when they were touring with
Aerosmith late 70's I believe.
It's a dream to play this guitar (Personal opinion), light and perfectly
balanced.

Can't seem to buy it here in the Netherlands. I mentioned an auction site in
the States where the guitar was sold for only $ 850,=
I talked to Sidney (George's guitar tech) recently. He told me that George
does use the pre-amp....

Few years ago I did some inquiries and at that time the price was someting
of
US$ 1800 something.... newly build.... and that was is a bit expensive for a
"nice to have" guitar.....
Still... would love to play on it one day..... just to know how it
plays......

Saturday they play in my home-town really down south, so I can drink and
don't have to drive. Maybe George will sign my guitar ?!?!?!!?!?!?!
Frank
Funny and good to hear that George uses the pre-amp.

Follow the signs into the village. At the end at the T go to the left. Drive
