Ok this may be dumb but I remember reading that Patton is a big fan of
Stanley Kubrick movies (A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, etc.), well this
came back to me the other night when I was watching Kubrick's 'Full Metal
Jacket', there's a scene in Full Metal Jacket where the 'Nam reporters are
in a conference room....in the room there is a giant red banner that reads,
"First to go, last to know". Did Patton see that and is there a connection?
let me know what you think.

I remember making that connection too... who knows, really, but Patton admits
that he takes and snips from everything... in the places where that is true in
his lyrics and ideas, it's the arrangement he makes of them that is genius.

I agree completely... it just kind of hit me as I was watching it though.
One of the things that floors me about Patton is his sense of rhythms and
dynamics in vocals. He chooses words for their rythmic quality rather than
their meaning alot of the time (which explains alot of Angel Dust lyrics).
His staccato yelping stuff is really amazing as well. I'd buy anything he
put out. Yeah...you're right...genius

the rhythmic quality choices are apparent in songs like Smaller and Smaller...
I like KFAD, FFAL's lyrics cuz it reads like a book, although Angel Dust has
many great lines scattered throughout. The lyrics don't feel as potent and
outright on AOTY overall... but are still worth digging into... His lyrics for
a few of the Bungle demo songs are some of his best works, IMO...

Paths of Glory is also a Kubrick movie.
Off the topic, the "Kill the Body and the Head will die" is from Fear and
Loathing in Las Vegas.
We can hope on the new Bungle album there's gonna be a song called "Eyes Wide
Shut"!

and Loathing in Las Vegas, I didn't know about Paths of Glory

movie)

Yeah, and then they can make a song called "Barry Lyndon" and just have
a guy snoring for 3 hours plus. God that movie SUCKED! And I love
Kubrick.

Yeah! That's right ....I completely forgot about that 2001 music they did as
an opener. Patton did say that he got that lyric from FMJ in an article?
That's awesome...I've never seen Barry Lyndon.....but has anyone seen a
movie called O Lucky Man! I'm pretty sure it was a Kubrick movie it had
Malcolm Macdowell as well...it was really good.

Well, of course you know Patton is in the new Kubrick flick coming out
this summer.. July 16th.
Eyes Wide Shut. Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidmann...Featuring the first non-porn
on screen sex scene ever.

yeah right. but from the sounds of this bizarre Kubrick pic, Patton would
fit in perfectly.

I've been to several EYES WIDE SHUT sites and they make no mention of Patton in
the cast....

oh wow that would be awesome! Kubrick's soundtracks are always know for
being especially haunting....Bungle could do that brilliantly

Does Patton have a major role or a five second walk-on like Jerry Cantrell's
in 'Jerry Meguire'?

Hmmmmmm. Since Eyes Wide Shut has been done filming since mid 98 and Patton had
been doing Fantomas and Bungle stuff, I highly doubt it

Eyes Wide Shut was being reworked for quite some time, that's why there
was such a fuss about it. It just finished shooting a few weeks ago.

Mike and Trey briefly appear on the new Melt Banana CD, but I heard it was just
samples of stuff that they (Mike and Trey) have done and Melt Banana uses it in
their stuff. I don't know for sure, I haven't seen or heard the CD yet. I
think we have it at work but I have been so busy I haven't looked at it.

>Mike and Trey briefly appear on the new Melt Banana CD,

mike and trey are credited for track 8 (Area 877) along with most of mr bungle
and a few other guys. mike is at the beginning and says: "melt bananaaaa" and i
think trey says the: "you're listening to melt banana. they're so hard, that by
the conservation of hardness in the universe, you won't have any hardness left
for your cock" part. i think.
