I realise this could start quite a thread but I am curious
What is your favorite song and most importatly why is it your favorite?

My favorite is Sunflowers, because it reminds me of the stuff my dad used to
tell me.

ARGH! 1 song? Your're asking me to choose 1 song?

It'll start quite a long list for me. About 2-3 from every CD I have.
:-)

Local God
Pacific Wonderland
Sick & Tired
The Laughing World
Nervous & Weird
Invisible
Heroin Girl
Summerland
Queen of the Air
Amphetamine
White Men in Black Suits

* Note: More are my favorite, but I've already listen more than 1. ;-)

BTW, I'm looking for Everything to Everyone (Single) Disk 2... (I got
E2E D1 randomly off a store shelf, new, 2 weeks ago. ;-) I got S&F w)/
Live from KDGE and Live from Toronto from the same place today, so I'm
in a very good mood and looking to be in a better one.)

mine would have to be "Summerland." the message is so strong and it hits me
so deeply and i agree with it so much...there's so much to that song that i
stand so strongly for and believe so much in, and the music is great too!
art himself has said that's one of the best songs he's ever written and could
possibly be the best song he's ever written.

The Laughing World and Amphetamine. TLW cause that's how I feel, and
Amphetamine becaue of the music and lyrics. But then, pretty much every
Everclear song means everything to everyone (hehehe, I thought I'd slip that in
there.) I mean, the lyrics are so powerful in all their songs, anyone can
relate, and more specifically, tie them into something that's happend to
themselves. That's what makes Everclear so great.

i was just wondering why a lot of you "hardcore" fans' favorite album is World
of Noise. It isn't their best album musically, lyrically, or even to them. a
lot of band's first album is raw and uncommercial, like Radiohead and Smashing
Pumpkins, but those aren't their best albums by a long shot. I could see if
the lyrics connected with you, or you liked the raw emotional side of WoN, but
otherwise i really can't justify or see how that could be...

im not telling you your opinion or favorite album is WRONG, but im just
wondering why.

Thats opinion, ne? The most horribly sucky lyrics or music to me could be
beautiful to you.
Heh, dunno why everyone loves WoN! It's just so great (in my opinion ;). Its by
far my favorite <3

Just to throw in my two cents ... I consider myself a "hardcore" fan, and also
consider WoN to be their best album. I'm a musician and listening to WoN is a joy
over SMFTA. Malevelont, although the darkest Everclear song IMO, shows a wonderful
depature into realms that Everclear usually don't get to. It reminds me of the
Tragically Hip's "Scared" if anybody actually knows that song. The lyrics are raw
and untouched by money, fame, or "commercial success". If you listen to it close
enough, you can hear the other two albums within it. Whether it be in chorus's,
lyrics, or my oft-touted "like a california king" lick. That appears first at the
end of Fire Maple Song and Father Of Mine (original and remix). It shows that good
songs don't need much more than 400-500 bucks to turn into a real good album. Sure
it's noisy, loud and bad in parts, but it's all around the best album (IMO) they
got. S&F is a close second, nice production (but not glossy like SMFTA) and good
mix of fast and slow.
Also I think the guitar parts are a bit more complex in WoN , and Art makes
"attempts" at solo's. He pulls them off rather convincingly. Art actually is a
good guitarist when he wants to be, despite his claims of being a "shitty
guitarist". I think he benefited from Colorfinger's guitarist, just for the fact
that it sounded more musically complex in Deep in the ...

Incidently listening to Art play (acoustic) Father Of Mine on a local radio station
was incredible. This "otis redding" style that he's favoring nowadays is awesome.
I simply love it. I hope he doesn't gloss it over, keeps it raw and full of the
energy like EC's first two albums. We'll see.

Anyways, I know you were responding to someone else, but I wanted to just let you
know that I agree whole-heartedly that WoN is their best. Or at least you can make a
good arguement towards that fact. Good call.

john

p.s. lyrically, you can make a good arguement for any of the three albums. It kinda
depends on which stage of life you are in. Each album is genius. I couldn't rate
Normal Like You against Pennsylvania Is ... or Strawberry against Fire Maple Song.
Just too hard. The only thing I could say is that WoN packed a huge punch for such
a short album.

yep, thats my opinion. i didn't think that everything i said i had to write
"IMO" or make sure that you always know that i am speaking from my mind, and
from my own personal opinion. i thought that it would be a little annoying and
incredibly redundant for me to write "In my opinion...." before every line i
wrote that had controversial (perhaps) material.

i'll make sure to do it from now on though, just to make sure you know.
and you "dunno why everyone loves WoN!" ???? but "It's just so great" ???
hmmm, sounds like you have some good backup for why an album is "by far" your
favorite....thats neat and quite respectable.

don't even try.

Hm...taking it a little far there?
،.،
Yes, that was your opinion. The way it was written it seemed like you were
making a factual statement. Sorry for trying to answer your question.

>> It isn't their best album musically, lyrically, or even to them.

Do you really want me to list all the reasons I could find for loving WoN more
than the others? I've never really thought about it, but since you don't seem
satsified with "It's just so great" I could analyze the albums and figure out
why i like it so much.

>don't even try.

Try...try what? Me and my neat and quite respectable self didn't understand
that one.
