Not quite. Bagpipes aren't used at all in that tune. What you're
hearing is the sound of a uillean pipe, a flute-like reed instrument
that is a close relative of the bagpipe (judging by the sound of it,
I'd guess some wise guy thought he'd remove the chanter from a
set of pipes and add an extra reed or two to alter its tonal quality).
I too, find The Sun in the Stream to be a sad, but immensely pretty
tune. The name is quite appropriate too, it conjures up a mental image
of gazing into a little creek or stream on a sunny day just after a
heavy rainstorm.
Speaking of sad Enya tunes, the one that *always* brings a lump to my
throat and a tear to my eye is To Go Beyond - especially when that
violin solo kicks in. :) Exile is a close second on that list.
Does Enya's music inspire this kind of response in anyone else? Music
that manages to not only make me think, but respond in an emotionally
deep way is the kind I call "classic".
