Me too. I just don't get the same feeling I get with Jeff's ELO. They
are okay buty they are not great.

That's not for me to say. If you go to the concert be prepared for
whatever reaction you get.
ELO (original) is the most important & most favorite music of my life, even 12
years after the last album. Jeff Lynne is my single favorite
song-writer/producer/musician.
I like ELO Part 2's music, but truthfully it doesn't do as much for me as
Jeff's ELO. This is not criticism, just preference.

Go to the AC gig, you will enjoy it!
The 27 piece orchestra augmentation will blow you away, just to hear Jeff's
great tunes with an orchestra (instead of tapes) is worth it alone
Go with an open mind & come back & tell us all, hell you can even write a
review for the web site!!
Cheers
jk
p.s. I am biased!!
Yes I think you would enjoy seeing ELO Part II in Alantic City. They put on a
very good show. I have heard from the Grand Opra house in Wilington Delaware
that the staff was very impressed with the band. They had never had this type
of concert in the Grand Opra House before.

What ever do you mean, "would I enjoy seeing the ELO part 2 concert in
Atlantic City?" You simply must go! This is as close as you'll be able to
get to mending your broken heart. Jeff won't be there, true, but the music
*will*. I saw them at the Grand Opera House in DE, and they rocked. And
they didn't even have an orchestra that night. I've never been able to go
and see them with an orchestra. So this ought to be great. Anyway, just
go. (Correct me if I'm mistaken . . .) I think I am speaking to all in the
NG who've seen ELO Part 2 live. Trust us.

That is a fair and very civilized statement. Jeff has a great ear for
catchy tunes, but to be truthful, I always wanted to hear from the
other band members. Now that I have, I have to say that I like what
I hear. They use the parameters Jeff set as a starting point, but
because there are multiple viewpoints represented, I found their
last album to be really refreshing. Phil Bates' presence as a singer/
songwriter/axe-wielder really made the record for me. The first album
had some good, butt-kicking tunes on it (and heralded the return of
strings!), but the growing pains were still kind of evident.
I also like the different treatment some beloved tunes get in concert.
Who says you gotta play it just like the record?
This is just my opinion, but I feel that a group works better as a
collaborative unit, rather than as a bunch of guys doing what one
person says. It's happier, it's healthier, and it can result in
some surprising new ideas.

It seems to me that there are different answers, depending on whether we're
talink about recordings or concerts...
On CD, there's no question that most of Jeff''s music has better appeal.
He is really a genius, capable of composing immediately catchy songs, with
many different moods. ELO Pt 2 has been mostly a forgettable package of
generic pop. I do however enjoy Eric Troyer's tunes, and I thing his two
singles (Honest Men and Power of a Million lights) are very much in the
spirit of ELO, with great vocals and strings.
Live in concert, especially with orchestra, ELO Pt 2 blows away the
original (post-1976) ELO. There's much more enthusiasm, and the
electronics available to reproduce their sound must be a lot better than 20
years ago. Also, I like the idea of the new group sharing leads, with no
one persion carrying all the weight on their shoulders.
Just my opinion...

STONE COLD JEFF LYNNE- SUPREME LEADER- ELOWO(ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
WORLD ORDER) WOLFPACK, Something happen to my ELO CD's, Something gonna
happen to you and that's the bottom line cos' STONE COLD JEFF LYNNE said
so.
"No question" is a rather dogmatic way to put it, isn't it? To me,
"Moment Of Truth" is the best ELO album since "Face The Music". More
variety, fewer anal-retentive production gimmicks obstructing the songs,
and better performances by the musicians. I acknowledge that Jeff is
gifted, but "genius" is a term I would personally withhold.

Good point! I always felt ELO was a concept that was bigger than
one guy's musical vision. It was designed as a melting pot for many
types of music and should have been a platform for the entire group's
ideas. What started out as revolutionary turned into something that
was merely pleasant, and sometimes embarrassing.
While Part 2 isn't what I would call revolutionary, they're definitely
going about their business in a way that serves ALL the members, and
I do like the music that results. It takes the catchy tunefulness of
Jeff's music as a launching point, and goes somewhere different with
it. It's about time! I enjoy hearing different voices (literally and
figuratively) in a recognizable ELO framework. I hope they last long
enough to take it even further!

Oddy enough, Mike too!
but still, Jeff is the Master! :)

>And I like the production.
Me too. I've said this before...the production is great on this album because
you can't hear the producer, just the fantastic music. That's the mark of a
really good producer.
I can listen to MOT on an on and never get bored...
i love the original ELO too, but i have to say that albums such as Balance
of Power, Secret Messages, and most of the Time album may get boring quiet
soon.
TIME has a great intro and ending, but the middle is too much weak. Moment
of Truth is strong in every track. The only song i skip is Whiskey Girls,
cuz i find it too much stupid...something like Rock n' Roll is King.
In the case of Secret Messages, the story is different. The songs are
somewhat ..err...progressive? hehe Well, they make radical shifts in beats
and chords, (thats what i mean)...like in Time after Time...and Blue Bird
(which is one of my favorites.) But the title song Secret Messages lacks a
lot of ...something? :P
I comepre the Secret Messages song to the Magical Mystery Tour of the
Beatles. MMT was a song that from the beginning til the end sounds all the
same. There is like no middle 8 or anything. Its just a constant beat, and
you get the feeling that all the song is just a chorus being sung. The song
Secret Messages has this same problem.
Balance of Power is totally different. Calling America saves the album...but
the rest is just crap. Sorry guys. ;) The lyrics are too good to be placed
in such a crappy music.
Conclusion: Listen to what you like the most...and be happy.
