Love will Keep Us Together pre-dated Birmingham Blues by at least 2 years.
Best,
Mk
And they all did the space of several years apart from each other.
As a DJ I had to play that tripe for three years. I"m sorry if I offend, but
these two guys were overrated by folks in the states.
I'm as much as an ELO fan as many here, however, one must know the history of
music before one makes a statement (as above.) ELO "borrowed" much from The
Beatles (as did many bands.)
>>The guiltiest band of them all is (was, I hope) Tears For Fears.

Agreed. Sowing The Seeds Of Love was about the only really "decent"
song they ever did that I liked and I don't play it that often.
I agree. Even I thought that when I first heard it. Remember that
whole business with Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbusters theme?
Now Huey Lewis is a guy who could use Jeff's help in some way.
On the subject of Tears for Fears, I've always thought that PART II's
'Breaking Down The Walls' sounds a little like 'Sowing The Seeds of Love'
during the verses - anybody agree?

Lots of stealing riffs going around.
In case those of you don't know "nicking" in The US is translated as
as "stealing" or "borrowing." I rather like the word myself. :)
yeah yeah yeah, so what?,..."Ghostbuster's" is a rip-off of the BarKay's
"Soulfinger", "Twist and Shout" is a rip-off of "LaBamba", "I Wish I had a Girl
that Walked Like That" is a rip-off of "Hurts So Good", "Earth Angel" is a
ripoff of "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", Chuck Berry rips himself off, and the
"Scooby Doo" theme is a ripoff of 1910 Fruitgum Company's "Simon Says",
etc....... If that was the case, Robert Johnson should've been a rich man
because almost every blues player has
stolen something from him. Who cares? Theres only two types of music,....BAD
music and GOOD music....
in the immortal words of the late great Jaco Pastorius, "All the best musicians
don't compose,....they steal"
To me, if I was Jeff Lynne (which, of course, Im not), I would take that as
the BIGGEST compliment in the world!!!!!............

Yeah you´re right. I never recognized that until your posting now. Did you
ever compare "Jungle" and Paul McCartney´s "C-Moon"? Oooooh!

What song by tears for fears?

don't know about that but sowing the seeds has for some reason always
reminded me of early David Bowie for some reason. It's kinda similar
to All the Young Dudes (as done by either bowie or mott the hoople),
yet it's not the same...but does have a similar feel...but I think
bowie had another song that has basically the same melody
>There a few bands who are guilty of "sound theft" I will first list the
>bands and the songs and then I will list the ELO songs from which they
>stole.....Flock Of Seagulls/ I Ran- ELO/ On The Run Again, Styx/ Mr.

>Will Keep Us Together- ELO/ Birmingham Blues. REO Speedwagon is also
>guilty but I can't think of the name of their song offhand but the ELO
>song they stole the sound from is none other than Rain Is Falling.
What part of "I Ran" is stolen from "On the Run"? (there's no "again"
in the title, only in the lyrics themselves.
I'll give you the Mr. Roboto bit perhaps...but I know for a fact that
Love Will Keep Us Together came out long before Birmingham Blues,
because I had an off the radio taping of Love Will...on my handheld
cassette recorder BEFORE Evil Woman was even released. I'd estimate
that LWKUT came out in about 1974, whereas Out of the Blue was
released in late 77/early 78.
Sowing In The Seeds Of Love.

Please--it's 'being influenced by', not thievery! :) My view on both
those songs is that they take their cue from the Beatles' 'Hello,
Goodbye'. A Beatles influence is surely in the grandest of ELO
traditions! I sang 'Hello, Goodbye' along to the choruses to
demonstrate this to a friend, and he agreed. ELO is, and has always
been, the sum total of its influences, often masterfully crafted into
something familiar, yet original. Sometimes not, but their average has
been very good.
'Breakin Down The Walls' is the most effective example of this done by
the band in many years. Phil Bates kills during the guitar solo
(that lick has ATTITUDE), and the lyrics really speak to anyone who's
had a relationship go bad.
1. They are all direct ripoffs of David Seville and The Chipmunks!! How do
we know this? Take an ordinary ELO CD, crank up the speed to four times
normal, or 78 RPM on turntables.
Voila!!! Chipmunks!!! We told you...
P.S. Incidentally, Rasmussen, my #3 engineer, noticed that in early photos of
the band, there was so much hair going on that, what happens if you condense
one of these photos? You got it!! Chipmunks!!!
Just glad to help,
