BTW, here's my wish list:
a true rarities set
restore all missing tracks from all albums and remaster them in Gold Disc
Long Beach Concert Gold Disc CD
Time Concert Tour Gold Disc CD w/Imagine Tribute to John Lennon
If you would release these in the US you would find they would sell quite
well!!!
Think about it!!!
I agree with all of the things Ken suggested, but a box set would be really
nice. All of the albums remastered to CD, with a bonus CD of unreleased
material/b-sides.
And the pop up spaceship from the original Out Of The Blue.
>6. A TRIBUTE ALBUM!!!
>Possible artists off'er the top of me head, mmmm... Tom Petty, The
>Lightning Seeds, Julianna Raye, George Harrison, Jason Falkner, The
>Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, World Party, Cheap Trick, Paul Weller (he
>could do 10538!!!), Elton John, Radiohead, Status Quo, Susanna Hoffs,
>Fool's Garden, Dave Edmunds, The Corrs etc etc etc...
I don't think World Party would participate. I had a chance to talk with Karl
Wallinger a few nights ago after a performance by the band. He denies being
influenced by ELO which he describes as being nothing more than a "pastiche".
Claims that the song "All I Gave" sounds like George Harrison and not Jeff
Lynne (and didn't like Jeff's work on the new Beatles songs). In having Karl
state his impression of Jeff and ELO in three words or less he said, "O.K.
but...".
In appears that Karl thinks of himself as a peer of Jeff's (both of whom were
influenced by the Beatles) and not as someone influenced by Jeff. He wants to
skip the middleman.
Here's a list of things I would like to see happen...
1. An ELO Rarities/Alternative versions/and COMPLETE 'B' sides
package... REMASTERED of course! If we don't get the original 'Secret
Messages' (Heaven forbid!) I want the tracks they put on Afterglow
remastered properly and included on this disc.
2. The original DOUBLE ALBUM of 'SECRET MESSAGES,'the way Jeff and
the band intended it to be before it was decimated into the single
lp.
It would be great to see this released in all formats INCLUDING a
double 12" vinyl release for those who want to put it between their
original 'Time' and 'Balance Of Power' lp's. Back then it was
always going to be a vinyl lp but this would be a good marketing
idea... I'd buy it!
3. A CD featuring JEFF LYNNE Rarities/Demo's/Alternative versions/and
COMPLETE 'B' sides.
4. ELO's back catalogue remastered by the great man himself starting
with 'OUT OF THE BLUE,' followed by 'A NEW WORLD RECORD' etc etc
etc...
5. A Better sounding 'Xanadu' If we can just have the ELO tracks then
this will leave room for the original movie mixed versions of the ELO
songs. Bonus tracks might include alternative versions and the much
wanted 'Xanadu' instrumental without vocals, 'Drum Dreams' and other
ELO/Lynne demo or unused tracks. Why we're at it why not REMASTER the
whole lot!!!
6. A TRIBUTE ALBUM!!!! We know Cheap Trick would love to contribute
to an ELO tribute lp, I'm darn sure there are a lot more other
well known artists out there who would love to contribute to a
project such as this! Just about every man and his dog has a tribute
album... How come ELO haven't got one?! I think it's about time to
give this idea a go!
Possible artists off'er the top of me head, mmmm... Tom Petty, The
Lightning Seeds, Julianna Raye, George Harrison, Jason Falkner, The
Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, World Party, Cheap Trick, Paul Weller (he
could do 10538!!!), Elton John, Radiohead, Status Quo, Susanna Hoffs,
Fool's Garden, Dave Edmunds, The Corrs etc etc etc...
7. A comprehensive video documentary on Jeff Lynne and/or ELO and
their place in the grand scheme of things... Nothing of any stature
exsists on Jeff Lynne and ELO. Can anything be done to rectify this?
8. A book on Jeff Lynne's life... Maybe he could be persuaded to
write it himself or someone could assist him. It would make for
a fascinating read!
Well I think that's all for now, I hope some of my suggestions have been
helpful Rob.
P.S....
9. Oh, how about the 'ELO LIVE IN LONGBEACH 1974' and 'TIME TOUR'
released on CD. As for the latter, didn't they also record it on
video but it was never released?

"The universal dreamer rises up above his earthly burden.
Journey to the dead of night... High on a hill in Eldorado."
Jeff Lynne (Eldorado Overture / 1974)
I see CBS releasing a 2-disc set AT BEST. No video. No book.
I just hope CBS can finally produce a good ELO set and that Jeff Lynne lets go
of many rare recordings which I'm under the impression won't be easy. I'm
worried "Beatles Forever" won't be there anyway.
But I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway.
