Is this song about a real person? The song mentions that he's on TV and he's
named Jerry. I never really thought of Jerry Seinfeld as macho. Any ideas.

On an interview on his web-site he says he had no-one in particular in mind
and came up with the name Jerry as it can be both male & female.

I personally think it's Jerry Springer but probably not!

Jerry of "Tom and Jerry?"

Has Mark said anything in interviews about Junkie Doll? I
wonder who that's about?

Mark says it's about addictions of any kind. Not someone in particular.
Mark quit smoking three years ago and was corcened about that issue

Greetings to all Mark- DS fans

Thanks. He writes almost every song from a different
character's viewpoint and it's so convincing I sometimes
think he must be talking about himeself or a person he knows.
I guess he probably never moved refrigerators or installed
microwave ovens either. And now that I think about it, he
wasn't even around back when they were drawing the Mason
Dixon line. What a great songwriter.

I think it's about a Christine Aguillara/Britney Spears type, from the point of
view of a Don Juan. The irony is that although she's famous the song's narrator
doesn't watch TV and she doesn't mean, well,
anything much to him. On the other hand, he's a nobody, but he imagines himself
as El Macho. The joke is that neither one of them has any real substance.

Hi everybody!
I remember Knopfler saying in an interview (I don´t know where), that
the song is about a man or a woman, because Jerry is either a man or a
woman´s name.
In my opinion this song might be about that Spice Girl, Geri (the name
is spelled exactly like Jerry), and Knopfler might like to hide the obvious
subject of this song, just to keep the suspense on the air!
This is just a sugestion, and I think that Geri fits in the prototype
that you mentioned (B. Spears, etc.).
Any more sugestions?

Hmmm. Jagger was pretty macho and his wife's name was Jeri, wasnt it. But not sure how tv plays into it.
I love this song. Knoeffler is a genious.

Jerry is a euphemism for " Cherry "
As is the case for " El Macho "
Those with experience all know where its going .
Its very simple.
