Because of the recent dearth of good DM remixes, I've been reflecting
on how good they've been remixed in the past. I thought it might be
interesting to ask the question: what remixes of DM songs do you
consider to be the best? I'll go ahead and put forth five of my
favorites:

I Feel You - swamp mix
Never Let Me Down Again - aggro mix
Policy of Truth - capitol mix
Shake the Disease - remixed extended
Useless - single remix

How weird... I was considering posting something similar along the lines of
what was the last single to have decent mixes...? I thought ETS but then
thats just me and it's bound to upset some people. I just think it's a shame
that in the 80's I couldn't wait to get all the extended versions because
they were always so cool. These days I refuse to buy the singles because
they are generally so poor.

I'm in total agreement. I loved all of the extended versions of M&S,
People are People, NLMDA, Stripped, etc. And they were almost always
done by either the band or someone close to the band like Gareth,
Daniel, Flood, or Kevorkian so the quality was never in question.
(not to say that only they did the good remixes, Portishead and Eno
did excellent ones as well.) Even Alan said that even though it was
more convenient to farm the remixes out to other parties, it was
always better in the end to have done them yourself.

I like this one too. Flood uses a principle here that DM seem to have
forgotten since Alan left: less IS more, and in particular more
elegant. That remix has such a great minimal groove. The
Schlampitzinger (sp?) mix was also quite modest and good. All in all
I think that Freelove was probably the best of the singles from
exciter, although I wish Uwe Schmidt could have been chosen to remix a
better track than Zenstation.

Is I feel Loved mix by Danny Tenaglia (sp) not cool?

I think its pretty nice. For people to be dancing to it in Ibiza this past
summer- ITS GOOD!!. (AKA Paul van Dyk- Paul Oakenfold spinnin it)

I like it. Though Ill admit they produced hot mixes more consitently back in
the Allan Days.

anyone else like the deep dish "freedom" mix (with "ETS" percussion")?

I thought the mixes were interesting, albeit a bit long (11 minutes is 4
minutes too much for me). The edited versions are perfect for my liking.

Schlammpetzeiger Little Rocking Suction Pump Version is a weird electronic
remix. It uses cut up vocal samples, over a re-arranged/edited version of
the bassline. It's very cool...

I thought the mix was a bit too straight forward. I liked the Labor Of Love
Dub though (not to be confused with the Labor Of Love Instrumental). The
Desert After Hours Dub was really nice as well.

11 minutes is too much, yet you liked the 12+ minute "labor of love dub"?

don't get me wrong, I liked the DT dub and instrumental much more than the DT
mix and edit -- maybe you mean 11 minutes is too long for "freelove"
specifically?

LOL Dub was a bit long too, but I think DT managed to keep it more
interesting for the full duration of the mix, than DD did with theirs. And I
made my own edit of the LOL Dub, to suit my own little "about 7 minutes max"
rule on compilation discs... that way you can easily fit 20 tracks on to a
MiniDisc recorded in LP2 ;)

Ok, I'll have to check Schlammpetzeiger out.

What does anyone think of those MegaMixes? I have mixed feelings (no pun
intended) about those.
