Selling 200,000 copies of an album may have been considered a hit back in the
50's but by todays standards it's a flop. When there are so many other bands
selling millions of records Leps sales with X are poor.

Yes they do consistanly sell but look at the numbers of the last few albums.
These are slaes in the USA. X I know isn't gold yet. I think it's up over
200,000 copies. Slang had sold around 400,000 copies and Euphoria did go
gold(over 500,000 copies sold).
Those are decent numbers considering Lep and Bon Jovi are the only bands from
the 80's to still sell records but given how many people purchase CD's everyday
here in the States the numbers aren't anything that stands out.

Since no one is buying CD's anymore one would think the true test to a bands
popularity would be their live gate (
tickets). From the earlier reports of their current tour Def Leppard not
only stopped playing big venues, they seemed to give up cause they know that
they can't even bring in half capacity. Therefore their record company has
no interest in promoting them.
Meanwhile those faggets Bon Jovi would book stadiums and hockey arenas and
bring a show to town and market it has a big show which would generate
interest which leads the record company to promote whatever crap cd they
have go. Either Def Leppard or their managment or their record company don't
relize this, or see Def Leppard as a washed up old band that is just playing
out the string until their record deal runs out. Therefore how much longer
does their deal have.

Tickets are $40+ with an extra $7 Ticketmaster charge.
I can see that kind of money for the top ten floor rows, but their show
hasn't changed all that much since they left their in-the-round format
behind.
Def Leppard craves some sort of pop status like Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, but
they have poor management and a label that doesn't support them.

Maybe they are trying, but it could be the whole music industry has
changed their tune, making groups like Def Leppard and others look
passé. Or, the band could be quite content the way it is. Too much
change is usually a bad thing. Let the band decide for itself how it
wants to run.
