Hello,
I haved the '83 realease of Sabbath's Born Again. Really an amazing CD.
there is this one picture of Ian and Iommi standing side by side, right?
and Ian is *taller* than 6'3" Iommi! Does anyone know how tall Ian
Gillan is? I do know that he wears a size 11 shoe!

By the way, Ian Gillan is the baddest mother f*cker who ever screamed in
front of a mike!

- Bad or not, IG is NOT taller than "6'3" Iommi. He IS taller than Tony Iommi
who is nowhere near 6'3" tall. And thats the long and the short of it.
Seriously, I was at a meeting with him (Iommi) in October and I'm guessing he's
about 5-11, 6-foot at the most (I am 6'4", shoe size 12 for the record...and
what record would that be?). Never met IG, but saw him sing once and it caused
me to applaud frenetically, but that's another song. BTW, who is this Mike
and why was IG screaming at him? So many questions, so little women with
time...or something like that..

The silliness is all mine,

Was it really a meeting? Did the bottle take a beating?

No, that would have been at Cross Purposes to what the meeting was about, and
thus Forbidden.

Hi!

I had the luck of meeting Gillan, and by standing next to him, I found I was
taller by a couple of inches--and I'm 6'2". In his autobiography, I think he
states he is 6 feet as well.

He's the cousin of Henry Lee Summer's "Leroy".

Bugger his height, how much does he *weigh* these days? :)

Seriously, I guess he used to slightly top 6' in the old days of the red or
white cowboy boots. Probably your figure of 6'3" for Iommi is well out, for
eg look at the cover of Sabotage; Ozzy is quite short and Iommi isn't
exactly towering over anyone...

Actually, I suppose this could turn into one of those interminable 'who's
tallest' type threads. For my 2c's worth, tallest singer in a band I ever
saw was probably Fish, he's something like 6'5". I read somewhere that the
author Michael Crichton is about 6'8"! I stand a rather pathetic 5'7.5",
but I don't think anyone wants to know this...

Hello guys!
I just thought of something cool: A "whose the tallest and best
singer?" The tallest and best singer is found by multiplying his musical
talent times his height (I don't know how you quantify the first--maybe
logarithm of the records sold).

Anyways, I know for a fact that Robert Plant is taller than 6'2"! One of
my buddies played tennis for Auburn University, and he's 6'2", and he met
Robert and Jimmy back in '95 on their tour, and he told me about their
encounter.

Yeah, that's about right for Fish (same height as me). The tallest singer I can think of is Pete
Garrett of Midnight Oil - about 2-3 inches taller.

Dude, soon you'll start threads like: who's tallest on amd-p, who's got
the biggest on amd-p, who's tallest on the internet, who's tallest AND
has got the biggest, who's who, etc., whatever! This is amd-p which
stands for alt.MUSIC.deep-purple, not alt.MEASUREMENTS.deep-purple.
Sorry for being appropriately rude...

He must have been wearing HUGE platform boots at the time. He walked
past me (barefoot) on a beach in Ibiza in 1982 and he didn't strike me
as being especially tall. I was lying down though.

Trond, you obviously don't relize how important these factors (height etc)
are to the quality of a band's music. I propose a new supergroup which
would take full advantage of the musical qualities which result from the
member's physical extremes. This band could consist of the following
members:

guitar - Leslie West (in his heyday biggist good guitarist)
drums - Animal from the muppet show (hairiest)
bass - Lemmy (ugliest?)
vocals - twin vocals from Peter Garrett and RJD - no explanation needed ;)
keyboards - Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder (most vsually challenged)

As extemes of physical attributes seems to be so important I figure the
above line-up would be pretty hot!

Now what's the subject of this newsgroup again?

Regards Cam

Adrian Vandenberg certainly is....made me look like a midget and I'm
six foot tall (plus a couple more inches in cowboy boots; not
forgetting an extra inch or so caused by my big hair - making me a
grand total of 6ft 3.5") :-)

inches. The other day I read where some ones weight was measured in stone, which I thought was something
I used to do before concerts :)
