It's time for me to buy some new CDs. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Interpol and Radiohead are already on the list.

The Tea Party, Seven Circles

An Australian guy named Ljor has a really good album out, can't remember the
name of it ATM, though...

No, but venture outside of your age group and this newsgroup and see
just how many people like the shit you listen to. I bet you the bands I
like sell a whole lot more than the bands you like. not that it makes
them better/worse...just that your "shit no one else likes" fagnuttery
doesn't hold water.

a varied list:
brothers past (their newest cd, this feeling's called goodbye)
disco biscuits (trancefusion radio 3, to be exact)
flaming lips
postal service
white stripes
yonder mountain string band
robert randolph - live at wetlands
fishbone
matsiyahu

yes, or any of the warts and all discs

I am adding...
Rhonda Vincent and the Rage-Raging Live
Shooter Jennings-Put The O Back In Cuntry
Todd Snider-Near Truths and Hotel Rooms Volume 1
Taj Mahal-Martin Scorcese Presents The Blues
Mojo Nixon- Whereabouts Unknown (mainly for the song "tie my pecker to
my leg")
New Riders of the Purple Sage-Ridin' With Panama Red
Jack Ingram-Acoustic Motel or Live at Gruene Hall: Happy Happy
John Hartford-Aereo Plain

You probably won't like any of them because they are pretty much
country/blues/bluegrass/singersongwriter stuff...

I like my music just fine. I liked that "indie" rock stuff when I was
20-24 just like everyone else. Then as I got older, I realized that it
sucked. I didn't like being depressed and angry. I also didn't like
listening to stuff that sucked.

I can still see me listening to the music I listed when I am 65. Do you
still see yourself digging out your Interpol discs?

While I don't listen to Interpol, if I substitute Radiohead I don't know
if I can answer your question. Admittedly it does seem weird to think
about being 30 and blasting Kid A in my house, especially with kids
crawling about.

I do know that I enjoy the hell out of it right now, and when I'm 65
I'll listen to whatever I enjoy then. I may save money for a retirement
fund, but I can't say I'm building a retirement music collection.

I am just saying...the music I like, will stand the test of time
because, IMO, it is good music. The stuff I listened to when I was your
age (save Pearl Jam, DMB and Todd Snider) all got sold back to the used
CD department.

Radiohead will stand the test (although I do not care for them, that is
beside the point) because they are original and creative. Most of the
music today in that genre is disposable, just like any other genre. It
gets fluffed on here and everywhere else for three months then everyone
claims to hate it three months later.

I am just saying... I will listen to what I like at the moment. If I no
longer care for the same bands when I'm 65, so be it. If I don't enjoy
them then I'm not losing out on anything. I'll listen to whatever I like

Indulge me.

Btw, it's not about what bands sell the most CDs. It's about what you
dig. What you can actually get into. If that were the case, we'd all
be listening to Britney and Hoobastank and Yanni.

Good going. I would throw in:

Bloc Party (I know, I said that, but you ALL should look into it)
The Microphones - The Glow, Pt. 2
The Kills - No Wow
Beulah (if you're feeling like alternapop) - The Coast is Never Clear
Kings of Convenience (anything; it's mellow, good stuff)
Beck - Guero (yay!)

So how old are you? You realize that making fun of people who like that
"indie rock stuff," you really date yourself.

Poor thing. Her music has sucked a big fat one since Butterfly. In
terms of good pop (I know, sounds like an oxymoron), she was the queen
of it. Now it's sythesized nasal-breathy bullshit. And to think, that
girl has pipes that could make a plumber drool.

I may be even lamer because I am sticking up for both of them, and hep kat
too.

Most people who claim to "like music" get stuck in the decade that they were
in high school or university. If I ask people my age who they listen to,
they will invariably list the 80's bands, and they actually do still listen
to that sh*t. Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode.... I'm an 80's kid,
but damn it was a weak decade musically. Maybe even worse than the 70's. :-)
There is the odd *real* music fan who makes an effort to keep up, but they
are rare, ime.

You don't know jack shit about me...only what you pick up from other

Explain to me, princess, why would someone buy THREE FUCKING CDS of a
band THEY DON'T LIKE unless they were trying to be someoen they weren't?

I hate Creed. How many Creed CDs do I own? None.
I hate Radiohead. How many Radiohead CDs do I own? None.

See the logic involved?

I was saying to Jeff who argued that I like "stuff no one else likes",
that even though it isn't important, I am pretty sure I like stuff that
is a tad more mainstream than the stuff that he likes, so apparently
someone besides me likes it...

I think it may have been foolish to buy the second CD, and definitely
the third, but you gotta get at least one. How do you really know you
hate those bands? Because of what's on the radio? Because of the type of
people you sell their CDs to?

Friends have those CDs. I have listened to them. My friends have vastly
different taste than I do...plus satellite radio and the internet...

It's not like we live in caves and just venture blindly into the CD store.

I saw The John Butler Trio here in my home town of Bunbury, Western
Australia (About two hours south of where JBT got their big break) for
$AU10, and they played for over two hours... Life was sweet... Tickets sold
out in less than half an hour, and there was a max of 2 tickets per
person... I only needed one, so didn't think of buying the second one...
could have sold that sucker for MILLIONS... MILLIONS I TELL YOU!!!

Sorry, you can go back to doing whatever now... Thanks... Bye

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in
Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me —
you can't get fooled again.
