Hey All,

I'm debating on whether or not to purchase the Gibson Chet Atkins SST
Solidbody guitar (the one that Dave uses) and I thought, "Why not see
what all you have got to say." So, if any of you happen to own this
please email me and let me know how you feel about this guitar.
Everything you have to say, and whether or not it is a good purchase.
Also, suggestions for other guitars would be appreciated too!! Thank
you.

Your own guitar is up to you. The music coming out of the guitar is going to
be yours, and it's a matter of your personal preference of tone and feel. I
recommend Guild and Martin guitars in that order, since I found they put out
the best quality I've heard. Also, you might want to check a local store
w/used acoustics, 'cause you might find a guitar w/incredible play and tone
under $400 or so, prolly even better than a brand new one. Hope this helps you
out.

I have a Godin A6 guitar which is the same style of the Chet Atkins. It has
unbelievable sound with the right amp and is only $700-&800. Incidentally, Kirk
from Metallica uses the A6 for their acoustic tracks

No need to bear the weight of your worries here, let them all fall away

hey, i have an sst.. i bought it a couple years ago when it was wayyy cheaper
though. it's an awesome guitar.. depends on what strings you use and what
kinda amp. i suggest a high-powered acoustic amp. and other than that.. you
should try it out and see how it feels to you.. i'm thinking about selling mine
- still in perfect flawlesscondition - though with the amp b/c i need money
(i'm in college and broke)

a pre-amp is necessary with some amps but if you have a powerful amp with a
genuinely clear powerful sound, the chet sounds good any way you cut it. i use
a peavey ecoustic 112. it's amazing.

Go listen and play. I'm not going to go as far as saying don't get an
Epiphone Chet, because I love mine. But, don't just spend all that money
unless you get some great deal, or absolutely need one for performing. I
get a great sound out og mine. I bought it from a friend who wanted the
"Real tihng" as he said. He spent $2200 on a Gibson Chet Atkins SST and a
Roland acoustic amp. He told me after 2 months that he wished he had just
kept the Epiphone. Go play them both, and see which one you like.
