Anyway, I finally bought In Rainbows about a month ago, and from there
it was a landslide: The Bends, Kid A, Pablo Honey, Amnesiac, Hail to the
Thief (in that order). I was at least aware of all of them except HTTT,
which seemed to come out of nowhere. I had never heard that one
mentioned before.
The point is, they are frickin' geniuses and I'm obsessed with these
albums right now. Yes, I'm like more than a decade late to the party,
but better late than never, right?
(Please don't slap me.)
Exactly. Welcome to the club, salerno. Try on some out of date Soul
Coughing, too.

I remember how that feels --enjoy it. I picked up OK Computer just
based on the buzz around it and loved it. Kid A somehow topped it (and
whenever I listen to it I'm reminded of Soldier of Fortune, which was
playing in my dorm room while Kid A looped continuously). Amnesiac
felt like Kid A Lite at first but eventually grew on me, and according
to iTunes I enjoy it more (I've given Amnesiac's songs more stars,
though I'd still say Kid A is a better album as a whole). HTTT was
great, In Rainbows got a few listens but I wasn't disappointed, I'm
just happy with what I already have from them and not really expecting
more.
I wish I could relive that whole process with another band but I don't
see it happening. The only 'new' music I've gotten in years is
pre-2000. I discovered Pink Floyd in college and while DSOTM is in my
top three I'm not sure I'll ever be able to connect to 70s music like
I do with 90s music. With no decent bands popping up in the last
decade it's sad to think that the reserve of music I can truly enjoy
is finite and there is likely nothing left to discover.

I know that feeling, which is why I get very excited when I discover
something new (even if it's actually *old*!). But I'm sure there will
always be new bands coming out that give us that same feeling, we just
have to be patient.
