We are certainly very sorry to hear of the passing of one of country's
legends. Thanks to the marvel of the recording industry,I am certain
that his memory will live on in his contributions to country music.
I have somewhere around 30 or so of his LP's in my collection. Many of
them have the music of which some of you in the group spoke of: Jimmy
Rogers...Train Songs...Hawaiian Songs... and the like. Often times I
would give myself a Hank Snow Concert. When it came to flat top picken'
, he was one of the best. Had the good pleasure of
seeing ole Hankie ( A name given him fondly by Faron Young) several
times . Chased him all the way up in Canada one night and saw him at Fan
Fair some years back(When Fan Fair still had the real country atists)
Back when I was in the Army in1953, he had a big hit song out about that
time. It was "I'm Movin On" If someone was shipping out or having to
go someplace, we would say, "I gotta' do a Hank Snow,I'm Movin' On"
Someone in the group mentioned that now he had realy been everywhere.
That may be so. One thing for certain,he did take "The Last Ride"
I have an 8x10 picture here of the only time the three Hank's were ever
photographed together (1951) Hank Williams,Hank Snow,Hank Thompson. The
picture was given to me and signed by Hank Thompson.
Gone, but not forgotten. With respect, Norm
