Just got back from seeing this film

FANTASTIC!!!

Anyone who hasn't seen it just has to rush out right now.

It's one of those rare films that makes you laugh and makes you happy, yet
at the same time makes you so sad because you know that you could never be
there no matter how much you wish you could, that your life isn't like that.
The only other film that's ever done that to me to that extent is Dazed and
Confused. Makes you really wish you'd been a teenager in the 70's :)

The use of music is great...every single piece of music, from songs to
incidental music is used in exactly the right place, gets exactly the right
feeling. There's a scene where the band are walking down an airport
corridor, and a Neil Young piece is playing in the background, just guitar
and harmonica, no vocals...it's perfect, incredibly emotional.

The best thing is how you can tell that the film is made by someone who
*loves* music, lives for it...that feeling permiates the entire film. I
know it's slightly autobiographical anyway, but there's one point towards
the end where Crowe has one of the female charcters say something...for the
whole film you think she's just a shallow groupie, but then she say this one
line...and it not only changes your opinion, but you *know* it's the one
point where Crowe's own voice is speaking directly to the audience...

It's just a cool film...go see it NOW!!!

there was (not sure if it's still there) a whole BUNCH of stuff about the
film and cameron crowe on the rollingstone web site. it was really
interesting. i came home wanting to read the REAL pieces that he wrote
when he was 15.... it was a good movie! i want to see it on tape when it
comes out (i don't know if it has yet).

I seen it a while back when it opened , it was a good movie & I will
probably buy it when it comes on tape. My favorite part was in the bus when
they sang tiny dancer, a great tune, was fun to see it have a video from the
movie play on vh1.

YES!!!! That was great. I don't know how anyone who loves music can fail
to be moved by that scene...someone discovering music for the first
time...you can see the wonder in his face and you know that his life will
never ever be the same (cliche mode /on). Especially given the situation
that he's given the albums in. I remember going through my Dads vinyl
collection and being amazed at the amount he had, and the art on the covers,
the fact that my Dad had taken the time to put them all in clear plastic
sleeves to keep the packaging nice...all I really knew then was that they
were obviously important...but I wasn't really into the music in them at
that time...when I go through them now, I appreciate them for the music and
the variety.

You can see how it's easier to fall in love with music on vinyl than it is
on CD. Regardless of sound quality, vinyl is far more tactile and 'there'
than a CD...both the packaging and the thing itself...the smooth way they
slide out of the slip case.

I don't think you could do a scene like that with CD's. Maybe in a few
years time one could work with a person discovering a box full of copied
casette tapes, with the tracklistings lovingly written on.

Anyway...I'm babbling now...I shall stop :)

Oh...does anyone know who the people that play the Stillwater songs are? I
know Mike McCready is one...and I'm sure the voice is Chris Robinson (just
been listening to Black Crows...damn great band. 'Southern Harmony...' is a
brilliant brilliant album...the guitars are just sooo cool...and
'descending' from 'Amorica' is beautiful too)

6am...need to go to sleep...and dream of being in a 70's rock band... :)

matt, i'm glad you liked it. one of my fav. scens from the film is where
francis mcdormand (the young kid journalist's mum) speaks on the phone to
billy crudup (the lead guitarist) and then like five minutes later he says
"you ma kinda freaked me out back there". i could not stop laughing.

and then you got jason lee running after the tour bus as he screams "I'm
only the fucking lead singer!!!". great stuff. can't wait for the dvd.

that's the great thing about getting films late in the UK as they are only
about a month away from DVD release in the US!

And if anyone wants proof that this film itself is brilliant, well, I
think it's a very good acheivement that 2 males have posted twice each to
this thread and not one of us has yet mentioned Kate Hudson ;)

Lol! ;) It's a pain really...because she is undeniably good in it, and
very deserving of all the awards that she *will* get for it.

But if any male mentions that he'll get the 'Oh yeah? "Undeniably Good"
eh?...Just cos she gets her tits out you think she deserves an oscar,
pervert'!! :)

Then again...I think they were all very good in it...Frances McDormand is
just the best anyway...the young kid is going to be the next Elijah Wood (he
could have easily played a hobbit).

And for the record...Anna Paquin is *far* cuter...mainly cos she actually
has *a figure*.

It was indeed a very cool movie. I've heard Cameron Crowe has another cut of
it which he likes better (and called "Untitled") which will be an alternate
version on the DVD when it comes out... should be interesting.

Not on this version of the DVD unfortunatly...BUT...30 mins of the 40 extra
mins that made up Untitled will be on there as deleted scenes.
