Meaning of "Another Horsedreamer's Blues"

Hi. I was wondering what you (the group) had to say about the meaning of
"Another Horsedreamer's Blues." I have a few thoughts of my own, but don't
have any solidified thoughts. So, if you want to throw your $.02 in, please
post and/or email your thoughts regarding the song's literal and figurative
meaning(s). Thanks!

it's sort of loosely based on a play by sam shepard, about a guy who
could dream the results of horse races, and was held captive by two guys
(working for others), drugged a lot of times, etc, moved around so he
wouldn't know where he was. the ending was pretty fascinating :)
in fact, i dont' know about the term "loosely based" -- i think the basic
idea came from the play but the song is obviously a work of its own. the
connection is there tho.

I hear it's from a poem... it's kind of like in a series with "Margery
Dreams of Horses" and what's the other one??? I forget. "Four White
Stallions" maybe??
At any rate, I read somewhere it's from a poem... basically Margery can see
the outcome of horse races. People take advantge of her for this, and she
become this lost little psychic girl who is basically just a "basket of
green and other things" people continue to take from until she's empty and
has nothing left. She feels obligated to share her knowledge and *other*
things she has with other people, and suddenly her life just becomes kinda
empty, revolves around alcohol and pills and the like....
Pretty sad huh?

thats what adam says on one of my boots...i don't see how they connect
though....

Would someone be so kind as to please post the lyrics to "Margery Dreams of
Horses" for me? I don't have a boot with that one on it yet, and don't know
what that are. That might help me, at least, in putting the trilogy together

Actually its from a play wright called "diary of a horse dreamer"
Also on a couple of boots the song "margery dreams of horses" is
suppused to be a sequeal to anna begins and a prequel to another
horsedreamers blues...
I think adam empathysed with the main character of the playwrite cuz her
talents were being exploited,,I hear he didnt even write four white
stallions (four more reasons)..........confusing..L

Well, Anna's first. Anyway, I can quite easily see the connection between Anna
& Margery. (i.e. Anna breaks his heart by getting married) But what the heck
does Another Horsedreamer's Blues have to do with 'em?!

sorry I can't post all the lyrics, they're not really that clear on the tape
I have. but I remember reading something about the trilogy... and there's
lyrics (in the version of margery I have anyway) 'I looked up at Anna - she
turned back to look at me. It's best to kill the ones that matter - render

obviously there could be some connection with 'anna begins' there? I don't
know what though, anyone have any ideas?

i wrote this along time ago. maybe it will help:
well. i FINALLY found a copy of this play by Sam Shepard. And let me
say that i thought it was indeed exquisite. i wouldn't exactly call it
sad. it was depressing but it seemed like there was indeed a stronger
seam that just sadness. it was (to me) a play about art. and the
artist. and the interpretation. we often seem to get caught up in the
art and forget about the artist. i mean, whether we admit it or not,
the general public has a tendency to ignore the artist or treat
him/her like dirt before they become an artist. we are responsible for
that art in one way or another. It seems confusing to read the play
and not find the word Margery in it anywhere, but i think that more
importantly, the play gives us a view into the song. If one just heard
the song they could NEVER understand all that it entails. i must
say that the music written for this song is incredible in portraying
the overall feeling. i would not go so far as to call it a depressing
feeling (as i sad earlier) but it seems to be a feeling of desolation:
a feeling that every artists feels from the painter to the poet, from
the actor to the dancer, we all feel a sense of loneliness. that's
what makes good art. cody was an incredible artist, one that is not
common, but he was an artist. he was treated so wrong, he had a
feeling of desolation, but yet he was kept alive just for what he
produced. all artists are used for their art and their lives are
basically ignored. so sad, but it's so true. Adam said at the new
orleans show, "This song is about a girl that dreams about horses, and
it's about me." That says it all. That shows how he feels and how we
all feel sometime.
hope it makes sense. the desolation prevails right?
