I read yesterday on the Clay Board that ATDW was recently certified gold
which means 500,000 copies shipped. That's half way to platinum. I think
that after some of upcoming TV appearances and the Xmas concerts and then
the tour in the spring, he'll sell even more so platinum should be right
around the corner.

It seems to me there's been a lack of promotion for ATDW especially radio
play.

Anyway, it's still a wonderful accomplishment. Not many artists sell that
many CDs.

Why do you suppose nobody is willing to promote him? The single from his
first album got minimal airplay (except for a little bit on Radio Disney),
but it seems no one wants to touch this one. Do you suppose it is because
it's simply an album mainly of covers, which traditionally doesn't sell well
to the general public?

That is my thought. It is covers and the best song (non-cover) is only
available as a download from Itunes. I don't think the album will
reach platinum at all and it won't be played on the radio since there
is no $upport for it.

What puzzles me is the limited Christmas addition EP "All is Well".
Wal-Mart only sold a few on-line and now they are putting them only in
the stores. What is up with that?

True. I'm a Clay fan ( I'm listening to ATDW now). I love his voice, it
touches something in me but I hate that there is nothing on this album to
pull in new fans. It's not exciting or new. He had originally said he wanted
to do an upbeat album and this ain't it.

I have to wonder how much passion he has for being successful. It doesn't
seem like he has much. Perhaps all of the allegations about his personal
life (whether true or not) have discouraged him from pursuing a career as a
popular singer.

His passion wasn't always to be a singer. He's said that he would like to
get his Master's degree and perhaps teach again. He also recently commented
that he would like a talk show. He likes entertaining people but he's happy
doing that whether he's considered "popular" by mainstram music or not.
That's not his motivation.

I personally don't believe the tabloid rumors but even if that stuff is
true, most of his fans wouldn't care. They enjoy his singing and respect
his efforts with promoting inclusion for kids with disabilities and working
for UNICEF etc.

The album concept (predominantly covers) was "mandated" by Clive. Clay made
this comment at the taping of the Tyra Banks show which airs on the 22nd.
Originally they had recorded a bunch of new songs (probably enough for
several CDs) but then Clive came up with the brainy idea to do the covers
thing. Now, I love the CD and I think Clay did a great job with the songs
but I think he's been putting the RCA spin on how the concept came about so
I do wonder if that is truly the CD he wanted to release.

Anyway, I think Clay will be fine with whatever he chooses to do in the
future.

I don't think it's a lack of passion to be successful. I think it's the life
style that comes with being a celebrity that is making him keep a low
profile. While his fans don't care about what the tabloids say, I imagine it
was hard on him and his family to have those things said about him.

That's my point. I don't think his heart is in his music career enough to
allow him to let all of those things be said without it affecting him. At
this point, I think he is pursuing his music career just enough to make him
some money and get by, but not so much that he's in the spotlight.
