Fellow Canadian, K.D. Lang is performing in Berkeley, California.
A quote, in reference to her vocal style and trends in the music
business: "I've spent 13 years butting my head against the wall, but if I
was going to make a record that radio liked, it would sound like Celine
Dion. Not that that's a bad thing. It just isn't me."

Perhaps K. D. Lang should try singing River Deep, Mountain High and
see how well she compares. Better yet, why doesn't K. D. compare
herself with fellow Canadian and hot country star Shania Twain?
Perhaps if she did then she'd have to just conceed that she doesn't
measure up.

I don't think, from your quote, that K.D. was trying to compare herself
with Celine. Quite the opposite. I quite like K.D. and being a fan of
Celine doesn't mean you're not allowed to like other singers as well.

There are a lot of singers that I like but I don't like to see any one
of them put down one of their competitors for the purpose of
self-agrandisation, especially when we here on this group have learned
to treat Celine's collegues with appropriate respect. I'm always
suspicious of people who look down on "pop" music and claim that it is
synonymous with bad music: "pop" music is popular music and music is
popular precisely because it appeals to a lot of people.

Anyway, I saw the first part of Celine's 1X5 today on Musique Plus:
they played Incognito, Where Does My Heart Beat Now, Les Mots Qui
Sonnent, Beauty and the Beast and Love Can Move Mountains without a
commercial break inbetween.
