Anybody know Celine's full name and a biography/confirming source? I know
in Quebec they apparently use alternate naming schemes... Something
Something Celine Dion, I belive. :)

Thanks,
Tyler

I don't think Angelil is a part of her name, because in Canada the woman keeps
her birth name when she get married.

Hi, I'm from Quebec.
Definitely, For girls, we always use Mary, blank, given name, name

The blank being our godmother (if a girl) or godfather if a boy)

Unfortunately, I don't know Céline's godmother name

Hi!

If a woman keeps her birth name when she gets married, why is Celine's mother's
last name Dion?

Bye,

Krissy

Hi!

Before 1981, the woman took her husband's name. After that, there made a Law
that now says that woman keep their birth name!

That's it!

I live in the U.S.A. so this is very interesting to me. Can you explain
the reasoning behind why you all use Marie (or did you say Mary?) first?
Is that for religious reasons? What religion is it? Whatever the reason,
I think it's totally cool and the names all sound so beautiful.

Roman Catholic... It is Marie (for girls) and Joseph (for boys).

Hi Jo!

Wow that's interesting! What made them change their minds? I mean, what was
the purpose of them keeping their birth names?
Thanks for you help.

Hi1

The 'Marie' goes before the 'Celine'.
So if Heather is her middle name than it would be

Marie Claudette Heather Celine Dion

complicated eh?

Hi,

The law of the province of Quebec never said that married women had to take
their husband's name: tradition did. So women used to do it only out of
tradition and social pressure. In 1981 (I think
it was April 1st) the new Civil Code came into force. The Code now says
that spouses keep their birth name even in marriage. This act was not
retroactive nor retrospective so it only applies to people married after it
came into force. This does not preclude anyone from using whatever name thay
want in their social life; but when a woman has to sign contracts or do
anything official she has to use her maiden name. The change in the law
was the result of the feminist movement: people asked that spouses be
treated equally. Quebec did not come up with something new because there
are other countries where married women change their name (France for
example).

I hope this helps

Uh- Jo, not to be rude...but I live in Canada- (as do you by the looks of
your email address)...I have many, many, many, many friends who have been
married post 1981- who did not keep their birth name. Are you from Quebec?
(videotron, I want to say is a Quebec server...?...is it?) Maybe this is how
it is in Quebec, but this is no "law" in either of the three provinces I've
lived in - Alberta, New Brunswick, and Ontario. There are women who keep
their maiden names, or hyphenate their maiden and married names- but there is
NO LAW that requires the maiden name being kept. Where in heaven's name did
you read this?

Just thought I'd clairify. Sorry for the off topic post, people.

Well, I read somewhere on the Net that Celine's full name is Marie Heather
Celine Dion........but so far, this is the first time I've heard that the
name Claudette is in Celine's full name too...... Hmmmm...why's this the
other way around?

Hi Vanessa,

Just read the post over yours and you'll understand that it's for the
province of Quebec. This little text was written by a lawyer.

Thanks,

Jo

Hi!

Claudette is her name for sure. In Quebec, the Godmother's name is used as a
middle name.
Her godmother is her sister Claudette, the 3rd oldest.
The only one we don't know for certain is Heather.
Where did you hear about that anyway?

bye,

Krissy
