This disappointed me. As a fan of both, I hoped Madonna would have some more
class than this. But another thing- in the back of my mind somewhere I think I
heard that this quote before. It is possible that the quote is quite old.
Another slam - Movieline has an article in their issue about the Oscar
nominated songs in which they really get on Celine.
Here's some parts of it:
"You know the feeling. You're watching the Academy Awards when some pert young
starlet in a sheath dress half feigns interest as she introduces the next
performer, a singer whose chief seeling point seems to be a surpassing
blandness. For purely hypothetical reasons we'll call this person "Celine
Dion," though she goes by many names: Kenny Loggins, Vanessa Williams, James
Ingram, Gloria Estefan... Anyway, "Celine" comes out in a long gown,
negotitates her way down a set of cream colored stairs and launches into a
wimpy ballad you've never heard before from a movie you never wanted to see.
OK, she got lucky this year with "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic, but you get
the point."
The article goes on to say that the academy nominations for best song are not
substantial songs and that they are too exclusive. The article contained
pictures of Celine singing and of her various "body parts" (hand, legs,...)
while singing. The captions says ; "Celine gets into a touchy-feely tizzy."
By the way, Movieline is a notoriously spiteful and trashy magazine. It's goal
seems to be to make showbusiness people seem stupid.

Maybe, what she meant is that she would expect that, seeing how he's her
*Dad* and everything, she might hope (or expect) that she would be her
favourite female artist? Maybe it's not something against Celine, but
she's just wondering why she can't be the favourite of her own father.
You know how proud Celine is that her father is her number one fan,
right? We couldn't blame Madonna for wishing for the same... :)

Don't you think the same way about the people your brother or sister or maybe
your parents listen to.
I agree with David. I think it was a couple of years ago, Madonna said
to Jay Leno that Celine was her father's favorite singer and that she
looked like her cousin; she said: "I wish I was my father's favorite
singer". When they both met in Germany this week, Madonna said that she
found Celine to be" beautifully elegant and very very nice and she said
that her father would die if he knew she was sitting on the same couch
than Celine." They even went to eat at a restaurant together. There was
a picture of them leaving the place and it was full of paparazzi.
Nicole
She wants to be her daddys favourite.Wouldn't you be.?
Madonna has met Celine On german show wetten dass and she said she couldn't
believe she was sitting next to celine. ANd that her dad would die if he found
out she was sitting next to Celine. Celine complimented Madonna to and there
was no tension because of M's uk no1 position and Celine's nr 2. They like

I also agree with David. Prior to Madonna's involvement with Evita I
had just lost all respect for her as a performer in the public eyes.
She just disgusted me. Then she turned around and impressed me so much
in her new found maturity. I suppose it became clear to her that the
tramp style would not work as she aged and became a mother. I will even
say from what I have read she has made every effort to be the divine mom
too. I believe she has made a great effort to elevate herself above
this former lifestyle. And for that reason I believe she would not have
insulted Celine. I read many years ago that she told David Foster she
would be thrilled to blessed with a powerful voice like Celine's.
Granted she does not have Celine's vocal range but I still think she
makes wonderful music. I am sure Celine would do a great cover of one
of her dance hits too. Maybe they can even do a dance number one day.
That would be a treat for me.

I am glad to hear this. I just bought Madonna's album and was in such a
madonna-fever that when I read this , I really was disappointed. But I'm glad
that the two of them met and got to chat a bit.

Madonna said she didn't like Mariah's music. She did say it was very brave of
Mariah to make her own videos.(crap videos in my humble opinion)
Madonna likes Celine a lot. It's annoying that people make up things to make
Madonna look bad. She's a great person and her album rules!
PS isn't it a pleasure to see that Mariah's album is in the bargain bin?:P
Hi Smiley!
Read the previous posts of this thread and you will see that it is NOT
the case at all. In fact, Madonna likes Celine a lot. They even went
eating together in a restaurant in Germany recently.

Do you remember a certain little overpriced book called SEX? Mariah
never exposed her uterus and other body parts as far as I know. There
are other ways to get there u know... like sleeping with Sony's
president but that's another story (and a cheap shot...I know).

Madonna new she would lose fans with 'SEX'. It's a revultionairy book..because
it's ussually guys that decide about sex. this time a women was in control and
they slammed her. the book is great and funny:-) check it out
I did see the book. Nothing shocking at all. In fact, some of the
pictures are very pretty. I was just responding to a Madonna fan that
was accusing Mariah of undressing herself in order to gain success. It
was unfair. You understand? :-)
Take care.
Edina.
If the quote is wrong- blame Entertainment Weekly, not me.
Dismissing Mariah shows a GREAT DEAL of class!! As the Grammys
have spoke.
Mariah belongs in the bargain bin. I think anyone who can see
and hear the truth of love in Celines' music can also see and
hear the phony sentiment that Mariah spews forth.

Excuse me? Than why did Madonna sell 387863 copies of her new album in the USA?
A personal record. And probably one of the highest all time first week sales.
Her album is number 1 in Italy Germany France etc etc.
ALready looking to become her best selling album in the 90's.
Maybe her best selling album ever.
@ bad for titannic. If that wouldn't be released she'd definately be number 1.

All I was reporting were facts from previous album. I sure hope that "Ray of Light" becomes Madonna's best selling album ever. I love Frozen and am disappointed that it couldn't unseat "Gettin' Jiggy Wit' It" this week. If "Ray of Light" had been
released a few weeks later, I'm sure "Frozen" would've sold more copies, and open at #1 on the Hot 100.
I wasn't trying to make Madonna look like a has-been. Sorry if I offended you.
