Here in Barbados W. I. Bessy Down refers to a communal Dance. In it you
place your hands "Akimbo" (On your hips) and then try to "Go down to
Lowtown" (Gyrating your hips to the music while slowly stooping) The
object is to see who can go lowest without loosing the rhythem of the
dance.

Thew dance can have sexual or sensual overtones. The dance can sometimes
be a playfull invitation or chalenge or tease.

The dance is derived from thr African Culture present in the Caribbean.
