Don't worry. You are not alone.

I've always wondered if the lyric "it's not the band I hate it's
their fans" is aimed at the "Hip."
Any Sloan groupies know the answer? There must be some
SloanNet lurkers out there.

Geez! I quoted the exact same line to someone three days ago about the
Hip. I probably wouldn't dislike them quite as much as I do if their
fans weren't quite so obnoxious.

yeah, they usually say it about their own fans....or at least the
jack-asses that come to the shows and try and mosh to the lines you
amend. pure shite, those fans. hip fans, not hate so much as
pity....have you seen these people? sweat pants, jeans with no pockets,
big hair. it's all piss shit. piss shit is not a word i use
frequently. but, for most hip fans, it works splendidly.
keep on keeping on little fella,
richard. burners on.

They're referring to Consolidated.
"I think Consolidated's okay.
It's not the band I hate, it's the fans."

ah yes, neil young...i guess if you like gord downie's
voice, then neil young's ridiculously bad off key
wailings are music to your ears...
Donna :)
You're fucking kidding right? Those talentless hairbags sucked.
I do. First of all, I'm not a fan of the group, I'm just not into their
kind of music, a lot of the time if a Hip song comes on the radio I'll
switch stations.
But if you can't see why they're so popular, then I'm sorry but you must
be pretty dense. They're so popular because when they first started out,
they toured *relentlessly*. Basically if you lived in some dumbfuck town
in the middle of nowhere, the Hip would play there. I remember when I was
living in PEI, it was almost a sure thing that the Hip would play bot
Summerside and Charlottetown about once a year. *Nobody* was playing
Summerside back then. They've earned their popularity; they've played places
most bands wouldn't bother with. Even now that they're selling out stadiums,
they play a lot more places than most bands of their level of popularity
would.
Also, even though I don't like their music, I have enormous respect for
the band, and I honestly think they're doing a lot to further the growth
of music in Canada. Think about how many indie bands they have asked to
tour with them. Thanks to the Hip, a lot more people have been exposed
to the Rheostatics, Eric's Trip, By Divine Right...
And let's not forget all the benefit shows that they organize, and the fact
that they reserve the best seats at their shows for their biggest fans (and
not just the ones with the most money or scalpers), and that a lot of
Downie's lyrics are very intelligent (and many of them posess a patriotism
that rivals those of Stompin Tom Connors).
But yes, it is very unfortunate that they have so many stupid fans. I
often find it hard to disassociate their music from all the stupid drunk
fratboy engineering student types that listen to their music (and yes, I
know there are lots of Hip fans that don't fit this category). Perhaps if
I could then I might learn to appreciate the Hip's music.

Not all engineering students are bad people, either. =)

I think we already had this discussion a long time ago, in SIG far away.

'Zactly, guy. Organized, too.

makes sense...I mean, you don't exactly sit down and seriously listen
to the hip do you??? I don't think there type of music is really for
that...which is why they do well live....as concerts are more of a
party atmosphere then anything these days.....which is why I don't go
to them....i'm too much of a music collector to enjoy a
concert...unless i'm dumping the thing onto tape off a soundboard feed
to enjoy later...hahahahaha....i do enjoy my radio concerts on tape I
pulled off of satelite.....best seat in the house...with no one next
to me to bug me...hahahaha!!!!

WHO????? well actually i've heard of the rest....for the most
part....i'm stuck in the 70's and 80's....comes with working with a
oldies station I guess.....oh well.....I guess I can live with
it...hahahahaha

hmmmmmmm......well.....that's DR Tom Connors to you...hes not that
bad...I only wish I could track down that damn PEI Tourism spot he cut
in the 70's....I can still hear it in my head....him singing the #
"8-double zero-565-74-21" remember that??? hmmmmm....you maybe too
young...then again...i'm only 32.

i'm more for coining "drunk university students" myself.....gees....I
did a karaoke thingy about 2 years ago at the gorsebrook lounge at
SMU...boy....I think I saw every university frat house stereotype that
night.....college girls drunk??? and their mindless boyfriends. what
fun to watch....gees, I know college can be a pain..with pressures
from asshole instructors ( had a few) and other stress, but that's no
excuse to be a asshole. great stuff they teach in university.....they
should teach you "how to dodge student loan collection 101"
soon....the way tuitions are goin...
back to the subject....I hate the hip musically....but hell....someone
likes em.....for the reason stated......and those reasons are quite
logical.
