Y'all,

A while ago I said...

>and also on the CFNY The Cutting Edge 1993
>disk, which *I* think is worth the $10. There she does a tune
>called Sparks Fly, which is arguably better than any of the
>material on the EP.

And there's been a little discussion about this disk, whether it
is any good or not. Here's my synoposis of the songs and some of
the pertinent info.

Wild Strawberries the way it goes really mellow with

September Child sun fall hour dancey with guitar,
boring.

the new world disorder messed up black flagg style punk

really fun and good
dynamics and percussion.

one so rude bouncey pop reggae
two-tone.

hayden take brilliant acoustic
punk, one of the most
thrashing tunes i've
ever heard with just
1 male, 1 female voice
and 1 acoustic gtr.

bender don't say no fun grungy pop
good melody.

treau an marvin good heavy power
chord-driven grunge.
fast!

soul kiss love fate INXS Listen Like Thieves

moniKa shaggyman good acoustic guitar
driven melodic pop,

sexy lyrics, high tension
song. Guitar based.
A highlight.

drag coppernia hard to classify,
melodic, heavy despite
some acoustic work. Slow.
definitely interesting.

hhead happy quietly grungy, bass-driven.
vocal tone is monotonous,
mournful. not my bag.

the lowest of the low gamble a little slow but big guitars.
great lyrics, vocals.
some excellent crescendos.
different mix from on
/Halluciginea/. I like.

thinboned hip face, cheek, groove mournful, acoustic,
*good* production.

angry & electric 1/2 way

Frankly, I don't think CFNY is "the cutting edge" They're the edge that
HAS BEEN cut.

And is it my imagination or does PolyGram own CFNY? Every second song on the
playlist is a PolyGram act and now this?

stinky poo poo radio.

Just out of curiosity: What do you think *IS* the cutting edge.

If not anything else, at least CFNY has the funniest morning show *I've* heard.
Humble and Fred - cool guys with neat clothes :)

PS: I am in Waterloo and don't get a whole lot of TO stations.

Jason.

Remember a guy named Ivor Hamilton? He used to be music director, then jumped
ship when they went haywire back in 88 for Polygram. He is still on 'Live in
Toronto' on occasion.

Hence the 'special relationship' with Polygram (not to mention that New Order
and Love and Rockets - two CFNY staple bands - are on the label).
