celine dion has got to be the single worst performer ever.she sucks so
badly. if i was canadian, i would be embarrassed to be of the same
nationality as her.(i am embarrassed to be american because cheryl crow
sucks almost as bad as urine dion) i usually love canadian artists though.
i think rush, sarah mclachlan, loreena mckennitt, and harmonium(obscure
french canadian band) are all very talented canadian artists. the reason i
hate celine dion is simple, she is a fake. she has no artistic control of
what goes on around. she is a manufactured little puppet. all she cares
about is how big a hit her next single is going to be. her involvement of
the creative process is this; she shows up to the studio and the producer
hands her a lyric sheet, he then has to teach the song line by line because
the cunt is so stupid she is probably holding the lyric sheet upside down
anyways. then after she actually learns the song she records her vocal and
then takes off to wherever. she probably doesn't even hear the song til
after the album is out. anyways that is my take on a day in the life of
celine dion. her evil needs to be stopped.

geez, talk about flame-bait. how are you the omniscient expert?
i'll freely admit that celine dion's material is manufactured, just as alanis
morrisette or whitney houston or even michael jackson (as if quincy jones
didn't have a huge say). that's the whole point of pop culture - feed the
masses the pap they wish to consume (that which you've convinced them is not
really pap, of course).
to denigrate an individual simply on the basis of -how- they choose to make a
living is arrogant - celine's been working her pipes since she was a tyke and
there's no reason for her to stop now that she's become successful in the eyes
of many. to describe her as 'evil' is totally inappropriate. i
personally don't like the activities of bill gates much, but he's not evil.
evil is thoughtlessly consuming natural resources without caring about the
future impact.
evil is cutting up your neighbour with a machete cuz someone told you to.
evil is being a mouthy, cynical, condescending S.O.B. without consideration
for the thoughts and feelings of others. get off your high horse before it
gies you an enema.

anyways, last trip home, i did the x-canada thing - picked up a few goodies.
standouts include:
ron hawkins - 'secret of my excess' - oh, i miss LOTL. saw ron & his backing
group at el mocambo in T.O. on my one-night stayover before heading west.
lively and eclectic with playfully cutting lyrics. he mentioned something
about recording something new later this summer - my fingers are crossed.
she stole my beer - 'mule' - from vancouver, a bunch of bluesy bar rockers -
goes over easily with the classic rock bunch that i currently work with.
arrogant worms - 'c'est cheese' & others - damn disappointed that i missed
these guys on the festival circuit - they're from kingston if ya didn't know
and they do musical comedy. i've found a ultra-decent page for them:

captain tractor - 'land' - i believe that these edmonton folk-pop folks have a
more recent cd out ('east of edson'??) which has an arrogant worms cover
('the last saskatchewan pirate' or some such) - their older gem is great
fun!
killjoys - 'starry' - had their more recent cd first, so i was playing catch
up - well worth it.
ok, i've used up enough bandwith. keep rocking and make sure you vote next
week. (it's a pain that i can't vote in either country :( )

Formula pop music is certainly not a Canadian phenomenon. If your taste
doesn't run to the formula pop beat, don't buy it. Launching personal
attacks against someone who has an "entertainment" job with enough
skill to earn a living isn't necessary. They should be accorded the
same respect as any blue or white collar worker.
Whether a particular artist or song deserves to be called "art" or mere
entertainment is personal opinion. At least in the popular music industry
my tax dollars aren't used to directly support the entertainer (yeh there
are some indirect supports out there, but not many in the pop, rock side
get access to it). On the other hand, my tax dollars are used to support
unpopular artists putting bizarre stuff into art galleries, symphony
orchestras, operas and the like that would never make it without the
subsidies. Not that I don't like any of that stuff, but should I be
forced to pay for the stuff I have absolutely no interest in and that
a substantial portion of the population has no interest in?
I'm not embarassed to have Celine Dion as a fellow citizen
just because I don't appreciate her singing. If she campaigned for
the separatist Bloc Quebecois in the upcoming election, that might
be a different story.

Now if you want to state an opinion and back it with facts that is fine. I
am no real "Celine" fan myself. But she is not the only artist today that
does not write her own music or lyrics. Nor is she the only celebrity to
marry someone that we would not choose for ourselves. She is out to make
money, there is no doubt in that. I would love to meet a artist who would
not love to make money. Facts are that she is famous and rich. She must be
doing something right.
