I can hardly say that I am surprized that Roger McGuinn has been using the
Pyramid Gold Flatwound Strings on his Rickenbacker! In reality, these
strings are the only choice for anyone who strives for the "real deal" in
strings and wants the ultimate tone and longevity. I have used Pyramid
Strings on my own instruments and they are my only choice for getting the
great sounds that I demand from my instruments. If Pyramids were not
available, I would STOP playing guitar! They are THAT GREAT! Their life is
nothing short of amazing and the tone and feel make any guitar feel very
sensual and warm.

I was curious about that myself. Today I am going to a music shop anyway so I am
going to see if they have them, or where I can get them, if they know. Worse comes
to worse I'll have to order them from the Pyramid web page (pyramidstrings.com in
case you didn't know).

Crass commercialism at it's worst. I don't
care if Roger plays with rubber bands,
I don't want to see them advertised here.
I may be a dissenting vote, but isn't this
an 'alt. music' newsgroup?
Thank you, Tom

Tom:
Point is a lot of people might want to know about how to create The Byrds
type of sound and elec. 12 string guitar is key also type of strings used is
key --like people every make is different sounding in strings, also.
Pyramid is a very low profile relatively unknown make of strings, despite
making strings since 1850 because of small, hand production, and finest/most
expensive materials used. They are marketed in US on a break even/labor of
love basis, as a service to the community of musicians wishing best possible
tone/timbre/sound , as was, in former times 50's and 60's when these types
of strings were avail from many makers---only Pyramid left now ---as too
expensive and low volume for commercial , high speed , mass volume
makers/production market. So this a little bit different than crass
commercialism on several counts.
Best to you in any case.
