Is Damon Albarn Bisexual?

I recently found an old newspaper at work (Toronto Star; December 13,
1997), and I noticed a picture of Blur, so with interest I read the
article. The article is called 'The Revenge of the Sissy Boy', and it
seems to be about how gay men seem to be more accepted now, and how they
have always been accepted in music. However, I was absolutely shocked
when I read part of the article:
"The recent Brit-pop wave of nancy boys-the British equivalent of
sissy-includes lead singers Damon Albarn of Blur and Brett Anderson of
Suede, both of whom are out as bisexual.
'Maybe, maybe, it's the clothes we wear, the tasteless bracelets and the
dye in our hair,' go the lyrics to a Suede song, with Blur blurs with:
'Girls who are boys who like boys to be girls who do boys like their
girls who do girls like their boys always should be someone you really
love.'
Albarn and Anderson take their cues from original nancy boys, like
Morrissey and the Pet Shop Boys, who kept their sexuality non-sexual."
It makes no difference to me what their sexual preference is. I just
had no idea that Damon Albarn was bisexual. Did anyone else know this?
Perhaps this article has got its facts mixed up. Comments anyone?

i fear this article may have just taken lyrics a little too literally at times.
oh, and morrissey never claimed to be nonsexual. he just said he didn't
have sex, and never said he didn't like either.
on another morrissey note -- i don't know how i feel about that past tense
they used. do they think he's dead or something? for christ's sake, he's
alive and kicking (and it's rumored there's been a few sexual
relationships of his in the past few years. both with men and women).
and they kinda screwed up the whole brett anderson thing, too.
i could have sworn he said that he was interested in both sexes, but has
never been with a man (which IMHO means that he's not really all that
bisexual, but that's just me. please no flames).
soooooooo, the overall accuracy of this article is questionable, i think.

About a trip he and Justine had in the Med. Quote from him was about how
like a herd it was and how little morality.
Dunno cos I don't know them, but from what I've read Damon seems to not be
that highly sexed, but a bit of a slapper with the women and hence the
infamous 'open' relationship with Justine.

I've got some article from around 1985 which suggests he was, at that
time, nonsexual - thinking the whole thing rather sick and IIRC rather
having a nice cup of tea.

if they are bi, then more power to them. it seems that being bi now is the
"cool" thing to do (or so some say). i wouldn't know...some things just come

crushes on men before, but they weren't sexual. They just thought they were

I read in one of their biographies where Damon said summat about 'having
experienced with lads, but I prefer a good pair of tits' or something to

I think you underestimate this article, I for one was/still am certain that
Damon is a Bi-sexual I also believe this to be the case for Alex as well.
Can't think of any arguments for my cause right now so I'll just leave it at
that.

Does it really matter whether he shags men, women or animals? Ok - maybe
we'd be pretty disgusted if Damon was shagging sheep but what I mean is it
doesn't really matter whether he is or isn't bisexual. I fancy Damon and
nothings going to change that cos I think he's gorgous and I love english

As I said in my original post, I don't care if he is bisexual. A
person's sexuality preferences does not in any way affect my judgment
about them. He could be making porno's with men and I wouldn't care. I
still love the music of Blur, and no matter what happens I will continue
to listen to them. I, being like most other people, was just curious to
know. Whoever he fancy's though, I don't care.

doubt the writer you referred to has even heard the rest of Parklike or any
album before.
I don't know much about Suede, but I do recall that when they initially came
out their easily some question of sexuality in terms of visual
presentation. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore however.

I just wanted to post that I agree "Girls And Boys" and "How Soon Is Now?" are
very much alike -- but I DON'T think either of them is unlike the rest of their
material -- in fact I think they're both quintessential songs, you can kinda
see a little bit of all their songs in them -- in that respect they are
perfectly typical "signature" tunes (emphasis on the perfect) -- typical Graham
guitar weirdness (genius), typical Damon sarcastic cynisism-wittisism,
cool-dude ladykiller bassline from fag-boy (as in ciggie), and Dave!! (all
drummers are insane...that's why they're so polite)
by the way, the bassline in "Girls And Boys" DOES sound like early Duran Duran
so very representative of the rest of their material. Ho hum, another POP GEM
from Blur....so what else is new.....yawn....

I would never take an article with that sort of title seriously. It does put a
grin on my face. I'd love to pin that on my wall!!! This same article came up
several months ago. I recall the Toronto Star is "barely" a legitimate paper!
To me, nobody is an "out" bisexual until they make the specific announcement,
"yes, I'm a bisexual." I don't care how much they hint or tease.
