Painted Axe just completed its commission for a Springfield, IL.
resident, who wanted his Danelectrco DC-59 to revisit the 1960s and
the psychedelic culture.

“Adding only a psychedelic look was not enough to make this guitar
jump,” said Michael Gauf of Painted Axe. “We wanted something special.
So, besides the alternating blue and yellow paint scheme, we
incorporated a lenticular, an image that appears to move when viewed
from different angles.”

“This guitar – inspired by George Harrison’s ‘Rocky’ Stratocaster and
Eric Clapton’s ”Fool” SG – goes one step further by actually giving it
a 1960s dizzying look and effect,” Gauf continued.

Transformation of the Danelectro covered about four weeks, from prep
and priming to clear coating and curing.

Painted Axe has started work on a custom-painted bass for
Indianapolis’s Biscuit Miller, a nationally recognized blues, funk and
soul artist. A vintage Kay four-string bass has been chosen as the
canvass. Painted Axe also is working on projects for the Blues
Foundation, Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival, King Biscuit Blues
Festival and the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise.
