favorite and why?

The music of CZAR can be downloaded @ http://www.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/CZAR/ or

U.P.A.C., Kingston,New York in the late Spring of 1985 or was it 1986?? It was
the first show I didn't have to sneak out to, my parents actually knew where I
was going! As opposed to the earlier shows I went to, I had to devise up
ingenius explanations as to where I was going and even had the supposed parties
of where I was supposedly at cover for me as well!!! To this day my parents
still think that was my first BOC show in Kingston!!
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!! I also was able to get a hold of one of those
ultra-cool SWU red & white gator shirts, but alas it got stolen in college, and
I hope the asshole who took it is now on Skid Row!! LOL

I can't remember the year (I think it must have been just before or after the Club Ninja
release in '86 - more on this later...), but I saw SWU at The Channel in Boston. It was the
first show I'd ever been to at a "real" nightclub (as opposed to the nightclubs in the suburbs,
where they only get crappy garage bands not unlike my own:-).

The tickets read "Show starts at 8PM", so I figured I'd get there early and showed up about
5PM! No one was in the club, except for the bartender, some guy mopping up and several
roadies.

Around 6PM or so, much to my surprise, the band shows up for their sound check! It was great --
BOC playing for the massive crowd of me and my girlfriend! A couple songs into it, Buck says
"Are we going to play anything new tonight?" They then launched into "White Flags", hence my
guess about the date.

Just after that an extremely large bouncer came up to our table and said "You can't stay here".
Something about his demeanor said not to argue. We walked out the door and had to go to the
end of a line of about 100 people to get back in! :-(

The good news is that we were still able to get seat at a table close to the stage and I
learned what "Show starts at 8" REALLY means. ;-)

That was the fall of 1985 - I was at that show - wait, I've got a brief
"review" of it on my computer:

B L U E O Y S T E R C U L T
The Channel
Boston, Massachusetts
October 17, 1985

Note: Not sure about the exact ordering of some of the songs in the
middle of the set.

The songs (in order performed):

R. U. Ready 2 Rock
E.T.I.
Buck's Boogie
Make Rock, Not War*
Take Me Away
Dancin' in the Ruins*
Then Came the Last Days of May
Joan Crawford
Wings of Mercury*
Burnin' For You
Godzilla
(Don't Fear) The Reaper
-- encores --
Cities on Flame
Hot Rails to Hell

Notes:

BOC: Eric Bloom, Buck Dharma, Joe Bouchard, Tommy Zvonchek, Jimmy Wilcox

*New song.

Eric Bloom turned out to be a prophet that night, asking the crowd, "How
'bout the Red Sox and the Mets in the World Series next year?" (He also
added, "I hate the Yankees, man, they suck.") The Red Sox and the Mets
played eachother in the 1986 World Series.

Joe Bouchard sang the first verse of "Joan Crawford", but appeared to
have trouble remembering the lyrics. Eric Bloom sang the second verse.

wow... it appears I was lucky in that I had the opportunity to find
out what this means on an occasion when the headlining band was _not_
BOC

... nonetheless, it seemed pretty traumatic for a 14 year old.....

Yep - I was there, which is why I knew about Eric's "prophesy" of the
Red Sox/Mets series.

Oh man, how long do you want the FAQ to get anyway?

Besides, who wants to here about the time I was at the adjacent urinal
to Buck in a hotel men's room in 1982 anyway? (It's TRUE!).

Just re-checked my old tour book from that U.P.A.C. show, they toured Europe
1st at the end of 1985, so the show I saw was definitely May or June of 1986. I
vividly remember the local radio promo for the show as a saying. "Tonight!
Live, In Kingston, New York....The Amazing Soft White Underbelly!!!! (Then the
very beginning of Reaper came in, and the DJ would cut in with)--But YOU KNOW
WHO THEY REALLY ARE!!!!!!!!" I was like the first 10 guys in like at the box
office the day they went on sale!! I think I'll call the guy at the station and
see if there isn't a chance I might be able to obtain that promo spot.

We were at the door by 6PM, had great seats, Eric Johnson opened Fucked up 3
times in the first 15 minutes, each time breaking his strings! He got booed of
the stage, BOC came on early and I believed played longer to compensate for it.
The cool thing about the venue is that it was/still is an old Opera House with
balconys. there were banners anywhere! Anybody elese here attend this show and
maybe has some photos that they can post? The banner were everywhere. They
coolest one was the bands own. It was Red and White and was draped over
Wilcox's Drum Kit. had the Kronos in red with Soft White Underbelly written
over top it!

Wings of Mercury was quite the stand out song too! I remember alot of people
talking about that tune after the show was over, we all thought it was a great
kick ass song, that should of seem the light of Vinyl! hehe

I don't remember the set list but I do remember them playing White Flags, Make
Rock Not War, Beat Em Up & Dancin' In The Ruins from Ninja. I used to know the
Sound guy from the venue, who supposedly tape this show! If you are out there,
PLEASE respond! I still want to get this show located so everyone can enjoy it!
