For one, the liner to the ET Live album (these are really more like
"alternate" lyrics I think). For another, the official lyric book.
Finally, most of the websites listed on Yahoo in the Blue Oyster Cult
section have relatively poorly transcribed lyrics.

Or, if all those fail, I can e-mail 'em to you (we're not supposed to post
them here by Bolle's request).

Here we go again.... :)
The money helps supports the fanclub's website which is not cheap, I'm
sure. I am correct in this, right Melne? And the rest is the age old
question of copyright which has been beaten like a dead horse here.

Yes, that's called the "support the arts" here program. To help maintaining the
Fanclub.

Lyric Copyrights have prevented us from printing them on the Internet, and so
until we're granted permission to do so, private & individual mailings of a
song is the current way to go for folks who just need a certain lyric or two.
There is no other comment to add at this time.

OK, well i guess it's time to come clean here. The money goes toward my new
Ferrari, which by purchasing Fan Club lyric books BOC fans have made it
possible for both Bolle and I to have one each. (a red and a black one,
naturally). With the remaining bankroll, we split taking trips to Monaco to
hang with the royals, and feasting on fresh caviar flown in from Russia.

The real answer is much more simple -- more people here have a sense of
respect for both the band who has stated that the lyrics are copyrighted
by Sony, and out of respect for the fanclub that has gone through the
legal and financial hoops to obtain them for publication in the fanclub
lyric book. As such, many here have little tolerance for those who feel
that the lyrics should be distributed over the internet for "free".
It's very similar to the various legal battles surrounding MP3 files
these days.

Yes, one can argue that perhaps the distribution of lyrics and/or music
over the net may actually promote interest in an artist - and yes one
can argue that copyright laws are more about protecting the interests of
record companies than the artists they claim to support -- but none of
that changes the fact that it is still illegal. Those who wish to
engage in this activity anyway are obviously free to do so, but should
not expect everyone on this newsgroup (or others) to facillitate such
activity for them.

As for "who gets the $$ for the lyric book", the BOC fanclub no doubt
gets it. This covers their costs for the actual running of the fanclub
- mostly the website these days - as well as the costs for putting the
lyric book together in the first place. Yes, one could say that if you
just wanted them to send you the lyrics via email (bypassing printing
costs), it should be cheaper. Well, again this same argument is going
around in the music world today in terms of distributing music --
namely, why should people buy CDs full of music that they don't want to
get one or 2 songs that they do? Well, up until fairly recently, that
was pretty much the only option. MP3s and the internet are forcing the
recording industry to re-look at such issues, and I suspect there will
be much more options available in the future. But, still - no one is
under any obligation to format things in exactly the way anyone wants
it. The products are out there and one can choose to obtain them in
their current form, or not.

The "we are the man" comment is ridiculous - the fanclub does not own
the copyright - but they have permission to distribute the lyric book
legally. Just because they won't break their legal agreements with the
copyright holders for the benefit of those who refuse to obtain the
lyrics legally is not about being "we are the man". Further, if you
really want the lyrics without getting the lyric book, you can do so --
but don't expect them to be handed over on this newsgroup.

i could understand if sony was up their ass constantly, that they woudln't want
to do it themselves (and i seriosuyl doubt sony is up their ass constantly),
but regardless, they shouldn't oppose anyone else doing it.
"legal copyright" blah blah blah. actually i'd say this is a public message
forum, much like a public discussion ina park. me saying the lyrics, or her
e"posting" would not be illegal. but even if it were, i woudln't give a crap
cos i know what's *right* in my mind. hence the "we are the man, pay up, it's
the way it is" comment.

nah i already found them online long ago (before the original lyrics argument

Yep, that's the reason....we're so greedy here we insist on sharing all
our knowledge about everything that we legally can :)

>

Funny....I just thought we were just obsessive about supporting the
band :)

> plus most are old and 'screw the man" has become "we are the man. come

And some are very rude and immature...easy to type here and insult
people and kick and throw a tantrum 'cause someone actually told them no
with a legitimate reason behind the no.

Look, Aeon, you want lyrics with the cd's??? Bitch to the record
companies...I'd like to see them, too. But until a law is changed, one
SHOULD try to obey it...you don't like copyright laws the way they
are??? Do something about it besides whine and cry and get testy with
those who ARE trying to obey them.

And it doesn't take a mental giant to figure out that the majority of
BÖC fans are older, considering their height of fame was 20 years ago.
Age has nothing to do, however, with respect for the law....your
attitude of "screw the man" explains why society is in the shape it's in
today.

And before you do it, I'll save you the trouble......"*Yawn*"

Since when does anyone have a RIGHT to know what the lyrics are? If one had such a
right, would it extend to people who don't speak the native language of the artist
who created the work? Would there be a requirement that the lyrics be printed in
the common language of all countries in which the work was published?

Many artists, I'm sure, don't want printed lyrics to accompany their albums for
the same reasons that some artists don't do videos -- they don't want everyone to
have the same, literal interpretation of what a particular song means. Such an
artist would want people to develop their own ideas of what a song is about.

For me personally, deciphering the lyrics, especially on the older BOC albums, is
half the fun -- indecipherable lyrics is one of the things that's always attracted
me to the band.

I too follow the opinion of most of you..I would like lyrics printed,
but hey, half the fun somtimes is listening to your friends sing in the
car and screw up the words because they thought they sounded like
something else. Bands have a right to not not print the words. When I
put out my demo I did not release the words to the songs. Its one thing
to hear the words in their context...but to read them out of it might
result in a misinterpretation. Anyhoo, Aeon....relax,listen to the song,
and take your best shot...the rest of us are. (unless you have the

Sound's like a personal problem to me. Since we're not likely to be getting
together anytime soon, why don't you trot down to your local biker-bar and
announce, at the top of your lungs, that Harleys suck and that Kawasaki makes a

Can't you comprehend the difference between a priviledge/benefit/courtesy and a
right? You don't have the right to have the lyrics to any song unless you,
yourself wrote it - or bought all rights to it. You don't have the right to own or
drive a vehicle. You don't have the right to eat fast food. You don't have the
right to shout "fire" in a movie-house. And you don't have the right to reply to

Aeon....most people here are voicing thier opinions here and have that
right as do you, but as far as insulting and calling names...quote..."i
feel it's a right, old man" completely unneccessary. These "old timers"
were listing to great music before you and I were shitting in diapers
and I do believe there is a saying that you should respect your
elders...also, if you cant say anything nice you shouldn't say anything
at all. I understand that bands not printing lyrics to their songs are
upsetting to you...but there are much more upsetting things in the world
than this. I suggest to everyone that this topic be dropped....I do not
enjoy mudslinging over such trivial matters and for a child of my age I
find this out of control topic to be quite childish.

sadie
on a lighter note....both Metallica and Megadeth have wussied out and
arent worth listening to anymore let alone finding out what the lyrics
are.

actually some albums in japan do have the lyrics translated to japanese.

amd as far as people say "well with mp3s and artists lose sales, without the
capitalist incentive, there'll stop putitng that music out for you" (actually a
true artist would not, but anyway..) its different because it's jsut lyrics. if
all lyrics were free, i seriously doubt it'd make bands stop singing words in

yes, they have a right not to print them (though it gets me highly pissed on
modern day releases. new megadeth album didn't have them..and what in their
place? a bunch a fuckin pcitures of a rat and a chiuahaha or soemthing)

but they sure as hell shoudln't try to keep fans from posting them. (Note that
even megadeth with that offense, at least has them provided on the official
website).

maybe. it gets tiring, though.

These "old timers"

<laugh> right. i never disrespected them. it was the viewpoint that made them
sound old.
also, they made some comment about metallica being in my sig. someone on the
slayer group said "die, old man, die" to this other guy because the other guy
coudln't appreicate any musical styles that ahve come along since thrash. the
guy i said it to seemed to need it a lot worse if he can't appreciate anything
that developed after 1970. there's not too much of a stretch between boc and
deep purple and judas priest and iron maiden. and between those two and thrash.

also, if you cant say anything nice you shouldn't say anything
>at all. I understand that bands not printing lyrics to their songs are
>upsetting to you...

what? megadeth? eyah that fuckin pissed me off. they only didn't cos korn and
whatever shitty bands don't do it. they had it on every single prior cd. but
not on this one, jumping on the bandwagon. and what did they ahve in its place?
some lame pictures of rats.

but there are much more upsetting things in the world
>than this.

yeah, but i still don't like paying for soemthing then finding out it didn't
have a big part of what i wanted for my money. i have a thing with lyrics, even
if i don't like an album that much musically, i still might like its lyrics and
want to see what they are, regardless.

I suggest to everyone that this topic be dropped....I do not

i don't like metallica. i do like megadeth. there are some ok things on risk.
BUT, from what the band says and what thsoe who have heard a couple new songs
say, they are going back to fast, heavy and with time changes.

Metallica is grossly overrated drivel.
I'll tell you what does surprise me... An ignorant little beerfart - who thinks
that puchasing an album entitles him to Eminent Domain over any and every part of
any and every recording that went toward the production of said album - is touting
a band that went crying to the courts because ignorant beerfarts were GIVING AWAY

EVERY RIGHT TO MAKE AND DISTRIBUTE BECAUSE THEY BOUGHT THE ALBUM.

just because you bought the damn thing doesn't mean you passed the
test, or didn't have your license revoked or suspended now does it?
Buying the album only, and I repeat only, intitles you to listen to
the music, view any material the artist/record company chooses to
place in the liner section, if any. Read the disclaimer about the
copyright. It states: "Warning: All Rights Reserved. Unauthorizied
duplication is a violation of applicable laws."
What part of this statement don't you understand?
It is very simple: don't make copies.
Microsoft, as if they don't have enough to worry about, is trying to
make it where you do not purchase software. Read their license
agreement. It says that you only have to right to use the porduct, not
own it. Microsoft can request, at any time, for its return, and all
assiociated materials with it.

Think about that next time you want to copy something. As the
comsumer, we have a right to use the material, not distribute it or
alter it in any way.
Now, lets change the topic, this is getting real old real quick.

That's the second time you've used that term. "I do not think it means what you
think it means." I am not attacking you or your character (ignorant beerfart is
mere comeuppance for the "old man" retort). What I am doing is attacking your

think I could go on a NewsGroup and cry about how I feel that I deserve a plastic

Gee, I don't see what the big fuss is about. Just do a Yahoo! search
for "blue oyster cult" lyrics and you can find 'em for any song. And
yes, they even have Black Blade :)

Whoever said you had to buy the lyrics -- or something like that --
is full of Cultosauras shit!!!! They are free to all of us, my
people.

Drool away, my fellow Oysterheads!!!

@ALBUM: CULTOSAURUS ERECTUS (1980)
Produced by Martin Birch
------------------------

@SONG: BLACK BLADE
( - E. Bloom - M. Moorcock - J. Trivers - )

I have this feeling that my luck is none too good
This sword here at my side don't act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls, it howls like hell

I'm told it's my duty to fight against the law
That wizardry's my trade and I was born to wade through gore
I just want to be a lover, not a red-eyed screaming ghoul
I wish it'd picked another to be its killing tool

Black blade! Black blade!
Forged a billion years ago
Black blade! Black blade!
Killing so its power can grow

There's death from the beginning to the end of time
And I'm the cosmic champion and I hold a mystic sign
And the whole world's dying and the burdens mine
And the black sword keeps on killing 'til the end of time

Black blade! Black blade!
Bringing chaos to the world we know
Black blade! Black blade!
And its using me to kill my friends
Black blade! Black blade!
Getting stronger so the world will end
Black blade! Black blade!
Forcing my mind to bend and bend

The black blade
Forged a million billion years ago
My cosmic sword goes on for eternity
Carving out destiny
Bringing in the lords of chaos
Bringing up the beasts of Hades
Sucking out the souls of heroes
Laying waste to knights and ladies
My master is my slave
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

For someone who crys foul over "personal attacks," you certainly seem to be using
terms like stupid and old man an awful lot...

Forgive me for thinking that you were referring to operating a motor vehicle in
civilization. If I'd realized that you meant you wanted to be able to drive
through Aeon-Land where the streets are non-existent and there's noone around for
miles, I would have never acted as though I stood a chance at having a rational
debate. Please accept my sincerest apologies for repeatedly striking your

Why? Because you don't "feel like it"? The bottom line here is that you have
repeatedly skirted the issue and fed us a load of crap. When you post a
legitimate reason for not paying, then this will end. "I don't feel like it" and
"they're on the web already" don't cut it.

btw... What's with the personal attacks/namecalling? You can dish it out but you
can't take it?

The Marquis de Sadie?

Anybody who's been posting (or lurking) here for more than a month knows that
Sadie isn't a guy (even if she has more balls than you). Anyone who suggests
otherwise is naught more than a flaming troll.

The lyrics posted are not correct, as they omit the final line of the
song, and perhaps the most pertinent, given the level of nastiness in
this thread:

"You poor f***ing humans"

You're projecting...

I've got a clue that someone's lack of "generosity" does not justify theft. Your
argument, again, relies on the notion that you somehow 'deserve' that which has
not been given you.

Avoid generalizations like "every other band." When you generalize, you give your
opponent the chance to shoot-down your argument with a single example.

Avoid using comments like "get a clue", and I'll stop telling you thing about your
family that you don't know.

I appreciate the offer, but I only do females.

Swift was imperfect, as are we all. Don't try to use a line of quotation from a
fellow mortal as a justification for continuing a line of invective which has
no validity. Bravery behind the curtain of annonymity is cowardice.

The lyrics are available by legal means, or illicitly. How you choose to
acquire them is entirely your province.
I assure you, the majority of the persons here don't give a single whit which
path you choose.

Sorry, all, but all of the name calling is immature at best, and simply goes to
lower the bar for what this forum could represent. Let it die, already.
Aeon is just a button pusher. He/she said so earlier! Further responses only
go to prove that he/she can be disruptive.
If that's what how you entertain yourselves, go ahead..I've said my piece. I
have other things to do that have some meaning, unlike playing the
call/response game with Aeon, which is just plain senseless.

God you really are trying to sound smart arent you....last time I
checked, clit was an abbreviation for the word clitoris...did you learn
that in health class this week? Most guys dont have clits...unless you
do.....but yes...I have a clit, and for your benefit, a vagina, and
breasts....and a f*ing bitchy demeanor that also comes along with being
female so STEP OFF my platform before things get really ugly....and
also, get bent!
